Politics and the like? Are you basically summing up all of non-anime life as 'politics and the like'? It's just TV, I like it no more than a number of TV shows and films, much less in some cases. Anime isn't the be-all and end-all of entertainment.

Get a girlfriend, with that should also come perspective.

What!!! Sacrileige anime is the only purpose of tv in my life!! I like it way better than other tv because it's animated which makes it alot easier to show fantasy worlds. I am not into 3d girls but I have lum plushie.
