they are the shit! check out Hyung-tae Kim. You'd think hes some anime artist from japan.. Hell I'd say he's above average in the art style of anime.older_gohan wrote:Actually Avatar: The Last Airbender is animated out in Korea as well. They do the script in the U.S. and then all of the animation in Korea itself.

What about Kim Jae-Hwan? I loved King of Hell and World of Warcraft (the Manga, not the game... Warcrack has stolen the souls of countless friends)

Well, see, there in lies the problem. Many people, including myself some years ago, believe that ANYTHING that comes out of Japan is automatically better than here in America.
However, there are MANY exceptions to this rule. Compare Dragonball GT to Avatar... world of difference in quality, people. Justice League Unlimited beats out just about any other action show in anime, save for Saint Seiya, DBZ, Fist of the North Star, and Yu Yu Hakusho. Megas XLR... yeah, even though it's a parody of every giant-robot show out there, is still 10 times better than most of them. I'd say Kim Possible and Lupin III are about on the same level, even though KP is targetted to a much younger audience (the movies of either, however, are worlds apart, with Lupin being the undisputed winner).
Now, in Japan's defence, I'll say this: Ranma vs. Teen Titans. Ow... TT was pretty darn good when it was serious; I could even excuse the sight-gag here and there during those times. But it just went REALLY over-the-top with the Anime-novelty crap. Ranma, on the other hand, while still doing some of the wierdest sight-gags and slapstick I've ever seen, NEVER really tried to be serious, and even when it did it was a steady transition.
I'm willing to bet on this: those whom say that Anime only comes from Japan have only been into Anime for 2, 3 years tops. Those of us who have been into for longer, say 7, 8 years, will disagree. To us, Anime is synonimous with high-quality storytelling and mature themes in Animation. Many of us - like I said, even me - used to think ANYTHING that came from Japan and was animated was amazing; this is because, back in the day, it was... or at least to our perception was. See, back in the sub-dub wars, even before then, the only things that made it over to America were the A-list Animes, the best of the best, because they were the only sure-fire money-makers.
NOW, though, people will eat up Anime just because it's Anime. This is why I'm severely sceptical about ANY Japanese Anime made and released after 2000. I'm not saying there aren't any good ones - God knows Fullmetal Alchemist, Monster, and Gankutsuou are firmly embedded on my Favorites, just after Robotech: The Macross Saga and Ranma 1/2 - but it's the same thing as studios making CG movies. Back in the day, everything CG was amazing (still the case with Pixar), but lately, they've been going down the drain, and FAST. Studios are shoveling them out as fast as possible to try and make a quick buck, not even paying attention to quality. The same has happened to Japanese Anime, which is why I'm happy to see that American Anime is taking a turn for the better. Take Justice League Unlimited; sure, it's final season was pretty weak (don't say that never happens in Japanese Anime, because I'll give you one damn good example: Kenshin), but up until then it pushed the envelope on what could be said and done in a TVY7 show (it really should have been TVPG, had the writers not been as clever with hiding their innuendos). It was drawn in a very stylized form, remeniscent of both Anime and the 1940's Fleischer cartoons, and was in no way inteded for little kids after the first season (Carter Hall: "I miss the dress"; Shia'ra Hal: "You didn't last night" - Season 5). Unlike Teen Titans, which was over-used sight gags and horrible comedy writing when it wasn't being serious, JLU never milked itself for being an Anime, and because of that became the quintessential American Anime.
So, in summation: American Anime - some good, mostly crap; Japanese Anime - some good, mostly crap; any form of entertainment in general: some good, mostly crap. Hardcore Neo-Otakus who refuse to watch anything made before 1997, and go around saying Naruto's the BEST ANIME EV-AR, will say, "Anime is only from Japan"; veterans who've seen said anime made before 1997 will say "get a life, the new stuff sucks, watch Kim Possible or older Anime, and come see me after you've seen what REAL quality is."
