The director of Rah has even gone on record as saying that Rah owed to Raideen...
Eva was copied more from Densetsu Kyojin Ideon. Not only that, like Evangelion, Ideon also had a movie to tie up the loose ends and finish the series.
Very true (...that said, the 'Ritsuko Clone' (blanking on her Rah name) and Ritsuko herself both owe serious props to Sheryll Formosa...their foremother in the realm of 'science bitch')

That said, Ideon had a bit more solid a reason for a movie (the series was cancelled three episodes before the end, and it shows *has seen the final ep of the series...abrupt is putting it kindly* The movie isn't an alternate telling of the finale a la EoE, it's the final four episodes of the series animated as one straight shot.)

That said, it's interesting to give that a look-see and notice a lot of the little style cues Anno borrowed from 'Be Invoked' for EoE (and yes, he's openly admitted these)

Actually, on the note of blow-for-blow, curiosity bids me ask...

Does anyone happen to have a copy of the 'I think I have an EVA clone' article someone did a few years back?

It was a joking piece where he starts off asking 'Is this a clone' he then proceeds to list off a whole load of elements that make it sound like it could be a rip...
...then he gets to the end...
The series name: Mobile Suit Gundam

Frankly, everytime I see this VS debate, I remember that guy's article, cause it really sums up my thoughts on this to a T.

I went through your whole web site, and the screencaps and commentary. All you have done is to convince me that two movies based on the same story are going to have many similar elements, happening at similar times in the movie.

You have also shown that there are many elements that are re-used in very many anime. Is Dai Guard a clone of EVA? Oh wait, they call that a parody, sorry. It goes back to the old saying "there is nothing new under the sun".
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

Come and join us on the tiny but fun forum at http://www.allanime.org

And how. If anyone has a copy of the March 2005 issue of Newtype USA, turn to the description of Sosei no Aquarion on page 43:
The time is Genesis Year 11, just 11 years after the terrible cataclysm that wiped out two-third of the human race. Thawing polar ice in Antartica reveals Atlandia, a place that was supposed to have been destroyed 12 millennia ago. From Atlandia rises up a race of winged beings, "fallen angels" who have awakened from their frozen slumber and returned to the world of men. But their intentions are not friendly. They attack what remains of humanity using biomechanical weapons people call "mythical beasts," taking humans captive in order to extract their bioenergy.

The human race won't take this lying down. Soon after the deadly catastophe, a group of people banded together to form DEAVA, an organization dedicated to rebuilding human civilization on the planet. Now it seems they've found something in the course of their undersea excavations - three Vactor machines, the legendary weapons that were said to have been instrumental in driving the fallen angels into oblivion long ago. When these vehicles combine, they transform into one of the three Aquarion robot forms.
The synopis then goes on to state that only specially selected teenagers can pilot the Aquarions. It's as blatant as it gets. And then there's Fafner, and....

Oh man...I remember watching part of that (...in and of itself, not bad, but...kind of odd...
In particular the Aquarion combination sequence...watching those pilots borderline orgasm as the units linked was... ...yeeeeeeah.)

That said...remember before Rah came out and the 'EVA-rip off' whipping boy was Nadesico?

EvaXephon has posted this IDENTICAL post on serveral other boards, including Megatokyo ( http://forums.megatokyo.com/index.php?s ... 15609&st=0 ) He is clearly spamming anime communities with his fanboy website and I think moderator action should be taken agianst it.

MT too? I knew about here and 4chan (...that thread's now gone the way of the dodo it seems...)

Then again, I think someone on 4chan summed this up best:

"Welcome to two years ago."
