I guess it's just that not much of people care about dubs or subs question. I decided to post my thought here just because I felt like tellin' out what's on my mind. Probably most of people passing by this thread just don't fell like posting because there's not much to say about it..angelx03 wrote:The ignorance of some of the posters in this thread flat out saddens me.
What bothers me more is they post one-liners and then disappear like it's some hit and run type of thing.

This is a discussion of taste, though, so people don't need a reason to prefer one or the other. Some prefer sticking to the original, some prefer not having letters all over their screen, some hate the voice actors and some are just more comfortable with their native language.
I have fansubbed anime on my hard drive in three different languages, DVDs from a bunch of countries and I don't care as long as I understand what they're saying and the audio is the original casting. Why? Because the people who created the series have direct participation in choosing the original cast, while they do not in choosing the translation casts. Therefore, the original cast voices reflect the characters better. The exceptions I already mentioned are because I grew up listening to those voices so I'm accustomed to them and find it weird to see familiar characters with unfamiliar voices.

I always prefer the original language + subtitles. Dubbing is understandable if the show is a children's show, but that's all.. That's just personal preference though.

That should read on the internet or in the world. There's no use feeling angry about it, so hakuna matata. Is there still a purpose to this thread? o.oEmong wrote:There's my versionangelx03 wrote:The ignorance of some of the posters on animemusicvideos.org flat out saddens me.

Ack. I posted incorrectly. I was multitasking at the time. If left out that , if I have to, I will buy DVDs with English Dubs and switch over to the Japanese voice actingScintilla wrote:That rules out 95% of the animé released in Region 1 right there.CodeChrono wrote:In all other cases, I refuse outright to purchase anime that have english dubs. I prefer reading the subs over hearing bad dubs.
So what, do you buy subtitled VHS tapes?
& English subtitles. X_X

I do it a lot. I have never even watched the dub of Ushio & Tora even though it doesn't sound bad at all. I just like the japanese version too much. Most of the times though when buying DVDs I do eventually watch both, but there are just some where the originals are just way better.
But I disagree that "most dubs are bad". Quite the opposite, most dubs put a respectful amount of effort and come out good. But they can never quite capture the fun of the original version, most of the time.
The thing I don't like most about dubs are script changes. Pointless changes...
