Cause people like to deviate, they think it makes them cooler.
Just like when stuff is in style and some random person says: "I hate it".
Suddenly that person thinks he/she is cool now others follow suite.
Most people that say they hate anime probably haven't even seen more then 3 if they've even seen any anime shows at all. Don't forget that sometimes they just catch a few episodes of some random TV network and see the crap that the network edits and produces instead of the anime unedited. They judge anime as a whole by one random thing they saw.
I'll admit there’s a lot of shity anime out there but that doesn't mean they all suck. Its the same thing with movies. Saying you hate "A movie" is fine but saying you hate "movies" in general is retarded..."

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

I do not understand what the fuss is about Anime?
People who prefer cartoons and say Anime sucks than big deal.
People have different preferences in life and shouldn't be pushed into a corner for believing in one thing.
On a side note:
The only real differences between anime and cartoons is that one is made in a foreign country but the other is made in the United States. The other is stylistically different and aim for different target audiences.
Animes are just like cartoons but just in a different form.
Each cartoon and anime should be treated differently and not be compared to each other.
meh, just my ramblings again~~

To cross post, I mentioned in the thread "why do you watch anime?" because I am basically not the sort of person that will not watch anime.
It's that basic.
I won't pay top dollar or stand for hours in line on opening day to watch a film regardless of how great I might think the film is or might be.
The first Lord of the Rings film was superb. But not so superb it would be worth standing in a line for many hours.
I think Star Wars fans are exactly as weird as our weirdest cosplaying anime total fans.
Some people can take something to massive excesses, and some simply won't.
And some people will take "hating" something to massive excesses, and some simply don't give a damn to go that far.
And then of course there are the total nut jobs that will hate something, without even knowing what they hate, based solely on an entirely intolerant belief system.
Those people defy reason, and are not worth even attempting to include in a rational dialogue.

Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

you know, my parents dislike Anime for two big reasons. First one is they say that the drawing of the faces discomforts them, because it lacks expression, is to simplistic and so on. Second is, that the Animation is to jaggy with its 15 or so pictures per second, they however like some CG scenes in between. They also dislike unnatural camera movement, like slow zoom in into a drawn picture to make it appear as if there was something happening when nothing happens in reality.
It's just what I got for response, they actually do not dislike any content of Anime, it really just the appearance and honestly, I can for many parts see their point. However, I never could agree with the simplicity aspect, because that is all about Japanese art, whether it is Anime or not.

Yes, Miyazaki seems to work better for them, but they did not hook on it so I could show them more of it. They watched Laputa for large parts though, but I guess they would blame other movies like totoro for the lack of "action" or so. My father even fell asleep halfway through Tokikake -- I guess this is not very uncommon for someone who likes to watch the biggest Hollywood SciFi Crap but discards many high rated movies for several reasons. They seem not to like complex plots where you have to follow the story attentive to get it at all. They also seem to not like movies (whether Anime or not) which are about interpersonal relationships.

I don't have suspension of disbelief. o.o
i think they really happen in some other dimension, is that wierd?
of course no matter where you are you don't believe everything that is said, otherwise liars would be having the time of their life XP
And the way it doesn't look realistic doesn't bother me, but it seems to bother most other people though (i wonder why.. o.o?)
You know the funniest thing? XD my parents watched anime when they were young and didn't think it was wierd at all, but now whenever they look at what i watch they look uncomfortable, like "what the hell is this kid watching?"
Since there are some parents here (i think? o.o?) do you know why that is?
