LOL.

Bootlegs, definitly.

There are no "preregion coded" DVDs. It's either Regions 1-6 or a Region 0 (Region Free/Bootleg) disk.

I love bootleg DVD's, I don't know what I'd do without them. You can by 3 or 4 whole bootleg series for the price of 1 legit and it gets delivered faster.

But it's like getting a William Chow fansub--there's quick release time, but the quality usually sucks.

not to promote bootlegging but i just bought this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... egory=2290

both subbed and dubbed? for 1 \ or 1\4 the price of it either or anywhere else .. mor eif bought seperately ... seriously .. how much does it cost to creat a dvd .. cents?? .. i can see price for animations .. voice actors .. subbers ... etc. etc .. but im not paying 20+ for a dvd with 3 episodes on it. i find those prices ridiculous.
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.
I've seen it happen, man! I've SEEN IT!..

Yes, but what you've got has 26 episodes crammed onto 3 DVDs.

Putting all the legal issues aside, that's between 6 and 7 episodes per disc. You've got a lot more compression to deal with, so less quality.

I wish that they would start making DVD in at least MPEG 2. But what I really would this rocked is if they ecoded them in XVID with OGG audio.
think of how much better a 2000 bitrate XVID encode would be to a 2000 bitrate MPEG 1.

Umm, DVD is MPEG-2, moron.

It's 720x480 res at an 8Mbit MAX bitrate, 23.976fps/25fps/29.97fps

VCDs are MPEG-1, SVCDs and DVDs are MPEG-2.

So what's wrong with bootleg copies? Well, moraly speaking it is wrong. Anime is still anime, no? I don't care for the quality of the anime, as long as they didn't edited the good parts out, or thought that some parts were too confusing so they "fix" it? That's the only time it should be wrong. Oh yeah, when you see cheap price anime, then they are bootleg. I got all three Slayers season for only $90 on DVD. I don't really care about the issue of bootleg. Whose getting hurt? America? Japan?

Actually, the DVDs for Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda have like five episodes each, so that would be about ten episodes of anime, and yet they look perfect and even have room for extra features on every disc. Buffy, however, only has 4 episodes per disc, and looks grainier than the beach. Apparently, DVD quality depends more on what the settings are (bitrate curve, special processing, blah blah) than on the number of episodes per disc.

I agree that the skill of the people doing the encoding can have a HUGE effect on the quality of the video
