No, Vash is straight. Like in that one episode (with the "daughter of a friend" staying as a houseguest at that one place, and she's actually something else...) Vash had an obvious attraction to her.

The whole Vash and Knives equalling gay thing is probably shallow thinking on the part of people who didn't pay much attention to the series.

The tension in the series comes from ideological conflict and questioning, not from sexual feelings.
