Well, if the names are gonna stay the same, it'd better be a Japanese movie with Japanese actors.Daio Kaji wrote:i hope you're right (in that this most likely isn't going to happen) because that would make a sucky evangelion movie, not worry of the titleGaikotsu wrote:Kamegami: What you said just sparked an idea in my head. While this most likely isn't going to happen, there could be a way they could use American actors and have it make sense: Simply tell the story of what happened to the 2nd branch of NERV. It was never really explained in the series, and while there wouldn't be much (or any really), Eva vs. Angel combat, it could still be an interesting story. And it could probably fit into a feature-length film.
I know it won't happen, but I think it's still an interesting idea.
if a movie is going to be made, most important of all is to get the theme of evangelion right, not it's smaller details of characters being of specific ethnic backgrounds, this doesn't come into play in evangelion, it's only background information on the extensiveness of Nerv and Seele (being able to control people in so many places)
Asuka (and the name should stay, i don't wanna have to see her called Sara or anything else, be it american or japanese, it should stay asuka because asuka goes through the shit she went through, not sara) can still have the f-ed up background she did with her mother going insane and her not being able to love her new mother and having to grow up so quickly, it's not too important to make her german, but it might help to ease the fans

Random Criticism:
Adaptation movies suck. Admit it, they do. Occasionally you have a few decent ones. For instance, the first two Batman movies, the X-Men movies, and a very few other moderate successes. When you take something out of the medium which made it successful, you can't neccessarily capture the essence of it. There are a few exceptions, The X-Men and Spider-Man cartoon, the Street Fighter II anime, Vampire Hunter D (originally a novel), and few others. But when considering live action film adaptations, you are fairly well assured that the movie will not be as good as you would like. Need I bring up Street Fighter with Jean Claude Van Dam?
For $100 million there's no way this movie can be good. Special effects in a sci-fi movie like this will take a hundred million alone to be competent, and knowing that, actors will most likely be no name, and other aspects will most likely suffer. However, The Matrix's budget was supplemented numerous times over the course of its production, because of how unfathomably impressive it was. In that case it payed off. However, if the Evangelion movie does not "wow!" its producers and such, you can be sure that the film will not recieve the budget it will require to live up to Anno's work, and will be a dissapointment all around.
The differences in American and Japanese sentiment towards film making are a world apart, and though anime, manga, and Japanese culture are on the uprise in North America, we are not ready to have anime adapted into live action films. The Matrix was very much a possible anime gateway, and it could be such for many non anime fans, however it has not. And it is highly doubtful that Evangelion will be either.
It is hard to remain hopeful that the film will be a success. In a way I hope it is a failure. By that I mean I hope they go all out and make a film that can only be truly apreciated by those familiar with the original work. Another example would be Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. It was a truly amazing film, however, it was made for a niche following, and is considered a failure.
I look forward to what develops, but I won't be losing any sleep, and hopefully neither will you.
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.
