ANIME... not cartoon...

I think a big point of difference is the fact that can and are are completly different.

By saying "Anime can be cartoons" does not mean "Anime are cartoons"

Yes, that's right.

I've said many times, "I'm just saying that Anime are not Cartoons". But still, even though some Anime may contain "Cartoon-like" material, I don't think that makes them able to be called Cartoons, because comedy in Anime didn't come from Cartoons. The comedy of funny Anime and Cartoons may be similar when they are mischievious/slapstick scenes, but somehow, that doesn't mean that a funny Anime can be a Cartoon.

I wouldn't go around generalizing now. There's good cartoons and horrible anime.

It would probably help everyone out if everyone posted what they thought the difference between "Anime" and "Cartoons" was... Like definitions or something.

Personally, I see no difference. Anime covers such a range of subjects and quality (both in animation and story) that if you call "Cartoons" kiddie-friendly animation, there's plenty of Anime that falls into that category. If "Anime" is just japanese animation, then it's just a regional kind of "cartoon." Personally, I like all animation (especially weird obscure stuff) so it makes no diff to me.

We've discussed the definitions many times. But it all comes down to the fact that Anime and Cartoons aren't the same, regardless of the definitions.
