Ok, now I'm MORE confused. Is the whole bolded part said out loud, or is it just the part in parentheses? Are those exact words, or words substituted by you in lieu of the actual words?

I forgot what the old man said. Everything else is taken directly from the anime. The person speaking is quoting the old man.
I went back and checked, so here's the complete quote

"This is great!" Said the old man who was supposed to have died.
