As realism and anime/game mechs goes, personally, I'd say our best bet for a realistic design lies in the VOTOMs designs

No the battlemechs from battle tech at least they come up with technology and stuff to explain how the principal works.

I do dislike how they really don’t explain how a gundam actually operates, I’ve always enjoyed knowing exactly how such things would actually work, even if they never will.

The only mechs i have ever seen that might be able to pull off independent movement and combat efficiency are the ones from front mission 4. All the basic design elements are there, with some viable weapons systems. There is still power to mass ratios to consider. Once the human race produces mini fusion reactors, who knows.

Man, I wish they would make Mechwarrior 5, preferably one with the Clans. I do so miss playing as the Jade Falcons.

Back on topic, anybody know if there are any new Gundam series currently airing or in the works?

The sequel series to SEED (Gundam SEED Destiny) just started airing in Japan recently, plus they've begun releasing the first of three movies compiling Zeta Gundam.

^There's already a second season?!

Missed the first one... :? somewhat.

Nevertheless isn't there another one besides SEED?

Actually, by this point, SEED has expanded considerably...now the Cosmic Era line of Gundam has under its belt:

-Gundam SEED
-Gundam SEED: Special Edition (...basically just a 6-episode compilation version)
-Gundam SEED MSV: Astray Red Frame & Blue Frame (two 5 minute OVAs...dammit Bandai, give them a full OVA, these sidestories were awesome!)
and
-Gundam SEED Destiny which has already aired two eps and will be airing their third this weekend (takes place 2 years after the end of SEED...not bad from what I've seen so far, granted I've been watching it raw, so there's prob. some of it I'm missing out on, but hey...)

I was at first put off by the Gundam SEED dub, the first couple of episodes, so I stopped watching. However, after seeing a few of the later episodes, my interest in the story has been peaked. Now, I want to go back and watch the whole thing from the beginning, and see how it'll all end.

Holy...
Expansion indeed.
 If this keeps up it'll become a trilogy.
*sighs*
Didn't finish Gundam SEED.
And what's with the five minute OVA's?

Trilogy? Perhaps...there's rumors that Bandai wants to turn Cosmic Era into the new Universal Century, as it were

As for the five minutes...Bandai prettymuch made them as promos for the models I think...still kind of a shame because the manga sidestory (from what they've released in the US so far) was pretty cool and I wish we could have seen those characters given more animation time. (...Still...for only 5 minutes each, they got one Hell of a good cast)
