Getting on topic - the way I see it, there are two possibilities.

1) They'll take the main concept of the original series, character names (though I'm sure they'll cut quite a few out) and make an EVA-based movie that just might be half decent.
or
2) They'll try to copy the series exactly, screw up big time, and everyone will hate it.

A live action EVA movie seems difficult/near impossible. It's possible that it'll be one of those "love it or hate it" things. I'd be afraid to see it...unless Anime Sensei II gives his stamp of approval, anyway.

I expect they're intelligent enough to choose the former.

I remember reading somewhere (perhaps it was that new article that was linked to in one of these threads) that they're trying to make the movie self-contained, but at the same time leave the possibility for (a) sequel(s) open... which means we probably won't be seeing any apocalyptic EoE (where EoE != Equal Opportunity Employer) goodness. Sounds like a good idea to me.
