It focuses on two primary characters, Mayuko (a quiet self-supporting student who works several part-time jobs to put herself through cram school, including one at a bathhouse where she gets room and board in lieu of pay), and NieA (a hyperactive food-obsessed alien who lives in Mayuko's closet, bums off her food, and build flying saucers out of junk in her spare time). It takes place in an alternate-reality Japan where aliens crashed onto Earth and assimilated themselves into society. It's a rather interesting series made by many of the same people who worked on Serial Experiments: Lain, although it's very, VERY different in style and tone. It's more of a comedy-drama and I really like it thus far myself.
I loved it until I found out the ending guess what SPOILER It's a massive waste of money!!!! Please Chaos save yourself from buying the dvds I won't tell you whats wrong unless you want to know.

I thought NieA had a good ending. It gave the series the feeling of looking into the lives of a few people for a little while.

I also liked the lack of heavy bullshit.

As for the ending not having some form of "closure", I think that's due to the manga being 1. rather new, and 2. still continuing. They probably didn't have a lot of material to work with.

My only real gripe with Niea is that I think the art could've been better, but that's debatable. Anyhow, they story's pretty solid and entertaining, and that is the important thing.
I'm out...

I'd rather not have the ending spoiled, Oni, but thanks for the offer all the same.

I think we already did that. There is no ending and sorry I can't spend over 100 bucks on something that has no ending. Especially when the plot gets built up and you are wondering whats going to happen next then boom nothing freakin happens. No explanations just boom ends everything. I doubt we can expect a second season. This anime had it all 1.Funny 2. heartwarming 3.Good plot but now it just sits on my shelf.

well that just sucks ... oh well i still want to see it all any ways ... is it possible that they "ended" the series like that on purpose? By the way are there any dates on the anime? I'm curious to see how old it is, since i can't read japanese i'll just have to ask you guys.

Spoiler

NieA_7 ends the way it does for a reason.

The show is a metaphor for life in Japan...

Certain situations in life have no resolution...
the whole ending indicates that some things are just going to continue as they are... while other things start taking a new direction

The main character has made a change in her life. It wasn't some major event in her life... it wasn't a car crash or a major disaster... she just has learned new things about herself and the changes send her in a new direction of life... not a big change... like everything else in NieA, it is minor and not blown out of proportion.

You can see that Mayuko has changed from the first episode to the last episode.

The whole show is delightfully subtle.

There are two kinds of people in this world:
Those who divide people into two kinds of groups
and those who don't.

What the class structure of the aliens means does. Why the ship disapears does this is something called a plot if you introduce these elements then you are required by god almighty to finish them. I might buy the manga after its been out awhile to see if the plot is worked on.

is is possible that you've over analized the show? I know that when i was in my writers craft class my teacher was talking aobut post modern writing and he was pulling all this stuff out of his ass about what the writers were trying to get at. I had to ask him at what point did he throw some pixy dust on the story to formulate these magic answers. I always get that feeling that i'm over analyzing something and inserting things that the author never intended to be there because of my sick imagination. Well thats jsut me, it may happen that it's actualy like that, i don't know i haven't seen the whole series yet ... i want to though.
