This is an AMV board, right? subs suck.
And to think...I even said on my first post that this debate wasn't up for another three, four months. Didn't we just have one about a month ago?

Blargh!

yea we did, i started it while i was still pretty new, and that didn't last very long, the general consenses, as i saw, was that people perfered subs to dubs ... but as i figure any time you mention languages you are more or less making the spawning pool for a dub vs sub thread ... language discussion should be avoided if you want to avoid making a dub vs sub thread.

heh, yeah..b ut back on topic i think.... n00bs are going to be there, i deal with one in particular DBZ/ G gundum fan every day and after awhile you stop caring. I mean i carry on a conversation/ arguement with him somtimes but i mean, i dont see him enough to direct him into good anime ( not like he would listen, he is to ignorent and hell ridden on DBZ) but one thing i do hate about toonami, is that they DO call DBZ "the greatest action cartoon on the planet" wtf is up with that....

just some thoughts

come to think of it, this thread seemed to be more aimed at bashing ignorant supremists ... rather then the generic dub vs sub "debate".

just out of curiosity, (seeing as I've only ever seen it on VHS or DVD) what exactly was cut out of Evangelion when it was shown on public broadcast (just a few examples of scenes). And whats this I've been hearing about the Evangelion DVD's not being "proper", something about them being "TV DVD's" or something? Does this include the boxed set? I'm in Australia, so maybe we have the better ones or something, but its worrying. I don't wanna buy Evangelion:The Perfect Collection unless I'm getting the real deal, not some sub-par(no, not subtitled par, below par) shithouse product.

But I agree. n00bs who have seen all of like, 4 episodes of DBZ and a bit of maybe, Pokemon or something cant be considered anime fans, especially not if they think that DBZ is the ultimate. OK, so I'm a big Z fan, but I'm a bigger fan of Evangelion, Cowboy BeBop, Trigun etc etc. I'd actually like to see more of King Of Bandit Jing, anybody know when the DVD's for that will be released?

I believe you are referring to the cuts when Cartoon Network showed Episodes 1 and 2 during "Giant Robot Week." The cuts are QUITE significant.

They can be found here and here.

As for things cut out of the TV boxset. The only things "cut" were the well...deleted scenes. These can only be found on the Japanese LDs (at the time). Unless you're willing to fork over a good 400 - 500 bucks, I'd just buy the perfect collection. Nothing is "cut" from it...well...nothing cut in terms of what was shown in Japan. I *believe* the NEW Eva boxset (only in Japan) called "Renewal (or was it revival) of Evangelion" will have the new footage and much better quality, but again...if you wanna spend 400 - 500 bucks...feel free. Oh yeah and I hope you know Japanese since they're Japanese discs.

To cut a long story short...just buy the US discs...nothing cut...

ok.... :? why even bother showing the second episode???? it must have been like 10 mins long!!!, as to the perfect collection box set, your all bastards, england hasnt received it yet, we just get the shoddy single releases from ADV, and they suck, a five year old could have put the dvd together better. Anyhow, subs are better than dubs, 1st example Asuka, the english voice actor just turned her into a whiny bitch, which i cant stand (its like grating my ears with a cheese grater) and 2nd) Vashs voice, just doesnt sound right in english...i dunno, maybe im just a traditionalist, but i prefer thing in the language they were intended for!
I play violent computer games! I could snap at any minute!!!!

Thank you! :) I feel the same way.

(begin rant)
On a related side-note (although I said I wouldn't get into this dub/sub thing...), I've met the majority of the Eva US cast and I must say....UGH! UGH UGH UGH! People kept getting Asuka's US VA to say "What are you stupid?" in an "Asuka" sort of way and OMG it sounded HORRIBLE! I don't think she holds a candle to "Anta Baka?"
(/end rant)
