I actually had an argument with a very avid anime fan of mine, she was almost as anti-DBZ as she was pro-anime. My argument went like this, though DBZ doesn't often use it, it does have a huge resource of characters of whom most have the possibility of character depth.

(*cackles* I beat her into defeat [boredom], she named all the anime characters she knew of with interesting history and I still had.. two left on my list of interesting DBZ characters.)

.. Thats all I wanted to say.. O_o

I thought DBZ was pretty good. It's not the best out there because got a little long and redundant, but it is still a good anime IN JAPANESE!!! There are fewer stupid lines and it just seems more hardcore. Anyone who has not seen it should take it slow.

I love the bit in the original OVA where they rescue the 'princess'... Priceless.

I'm watching the Wanderers. So don't tell Uncle Milo.

The Wanderers wasted my time. About more than half the episodes were worthless (like the episodes in Slayers Try  ). Most of the series are character developments which didn't explain much in the OVAs. In my opinion, the first El Hazard OVA is a lot better.

I don't think DBZ is complete crap, I just think there are lots of so much better shows out there. And I wouldn't watch the americanized version if you paid me. The only way to watch DBZ is in uncut Japanese.

But I think I pinpointed a problem with DBZ. Now, take me. I LOOOOOOOOOVE One Piece. OP is very similar to DBZ, in that it's primarily a fighting anime (but it has a lot more to offer than just fighting). However, OP has tons of fighting and yet still remains fresh with every new villain and fight. DBZ however gets stale after a while. Why?

Because the fighting IS ALL THE SAME. It's nothing but martial arts and ki blasts. Gets boring after a while. However, in One Piece, there is a HUGE array of different fighting styles and different powers (thanks to those good ole Devil Fruit). Therefore each new character and enemy that shows up has a new fighting style/power and keeps us entertained.
Reality is for people who lack imagination.
