Actually that brings up a good point that I can back-up with fact (which I have stated multiple times):

The reason Dragonball Z drags on so much is because it was based on a manga. A manga that didn't always come out with the schedule of the show. Since the manga for a lot of the stories wasn't out yet, the animation studio had three options:

A) wait for the next volume to come out so they knew what to animate storywise
B) drag things on by excessive speeches and powering up
C) randomly create episodes that aren't in the manga (Kenshin did this).

Obviously, they chose B. If you don't think this is enough reason as to why the manga is clean and fairly to the point and the episodes drag on with excessive talking...I don't know what to tell you. That's how it went in Japan and makes perfect sense.

Anyone wonder why people make fun of it by calling it "DRAG-ON-BALL"...that's why.

Actually, that's the reason I liked the DBZ manga (and even DB). You see characters go from a kid all the way to an adult and how they mature and change based on the events that occur (in particular Gohan and Trunks). This is one thing that DBZ did well...character development (well for some characters).
Yup Yup, thats why i think all anime should be created after the manga is fully completed. Trigun is another good example of a manga to anime gone terribly wrong :(

It does. Anyone who has seen the show can probably relate to this question:

You remember in the Cell saga when Gohan does that kame-hame-Ha on Cell and they battle (go back and forth) for like....3 or 4 episodes (this is what I mean by excessive powering up and extending scenes)? That's like....maybe 3 pages in the manga. He fires the blast, the battle a little, goes back and forth, Vegeta hits him with a fireball...Cell gets killed..the end.

Now did that really require that many episodes? No. Well it did since the volume wasn't out yet, but you get my point.

Spoiler tags!! :P

Anyways, sounds like i could actually get into the manga. Its just that, especially when airing on TV, you got to watch one episode one day and there was no resolution at all. So you wait for the next day, and still no resolution. It just gets really old especially knowing that it is covered in 1/25th of a manga volume.

I don't agree about the whole "The characters talk about nothing but powerups and powerlevels" but that's just my opinion.. and i'm not going to argue over it, lol. =P

The manga really is great, but the anime adds more to it I think.

i owe alot to DBZ
It pretty much opened the door to anime. I liked DBZ and now it's over Ive turned to different anime. Actually I did that way before it was over. I started loking into othewr anime during the Cell Games.

I used my fanfics and drawings now I make my own animefic revolving around my own characters and draw my own mangas with my own characters.

Thing I hated bout DBZ was the fact that this was the process how a normal fight went.

1. Bad Guy is stronger then everyone
2. Everyone is hurt and/or killed
3. One becomes stronger then the Bad Guy
4. Bad Guy is then beaten.

The only times this turns away from that is the battle against Vageta and the battle against Freeza.

I hated the Freeza saga and loved the Freeza saga. Goku still turned Super Sayjin and it still wasn't enough to defeat Freeza until later. That was long ago though.

Cell Saga
But think bout it
1. Cell is stronger then everyone
2. everyone is hurt by Mini-Cells
3. Gohan becomes Super Sayjin 2
4. Cell is killed

Buu Saga
1. Buu is born and becomes stronger buus
2. Buu eats everyone on the planet
3. Goku creates Genki-Dama
4. Buu dies

Although the Buu Saga was a little different with the several buus.

So yeah I owe it to DBZ to introducing e to anime when it came to Toonami and now I likes alot of different anime

DBZ used to be at the top of my list for fav anime now it's like 7

To be honest, the Dragonball anime > Dbz anime.

World Tournaments Rawk. :acdc3:

But in terms of overreaching story, Dbz is better, but this can only be realized by READING THE MANGA. The entire DB saga as a whole really is quite good in terms of both originality and character developement, but I took it off my top 10 long ago. It's still top 30 or so though.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

I still like DBZ, and like some of you, it was my favorite until recently. The only problem with saying that are the people that flame you for it. It is like flaming about religion on a much larger scale. One other thing, I think it is stupid that someone could be turned away from something because of the large scale fandom *cough* SSJVegita0609 *cough* . Being irritated is one thing, but some people turn their backs when it becomes popular. :?

I still love DBZ and with most of the series out on dvd, I tend to pop in a DBZ dvd and rewatch a few of my favorite scenes that I had on fansub long ago now with ultra clear picture quality. :D

The whole Dbz fanboy things seems to be dying down. Its not even televised anymore, all the fanboys have moved on to EVA, Inuyasha, Naruto, and Hellsing... But I know what you mean, fanboys = teh suckage. Personally the worst for me to deal with are the matrix fanboys, gah, they just... won't... shut... UP!

I hate people who do that, move from one anime to the next.. just because it's the BIG THING at the time. I only like talking to true fans.. people who own websites even do that! Dbz is over, so now i'm making a website to Cowboy Bebop, because it's popular..
