All seconded very strongly, especially Haibane. And Millennium Actress = greatness.

Shows where my mind is, I saw SWF and thought "FLASH". meh.

Boogiepop Phantom certainly is worth finishing, and isn't one of the cliched types you mentioned (it's a different kind of cliched storyline).

I picked up R.O.D. the other day and think it was a pretty good purchase. It wasn't revolutionary and followed the anime formula to an extent, but it's an hour and a half well spent.

I don't know why, but I've really gotten into Full Metal Alchemist. I guess it's good.

SuperGALS... the main characters have parents if that's enough to avoid the "all under-18" thing :)

It's facile but no more or less than kodocha which is the nearest comparison point. Kinda less funny Kodocha with high-school issues and amusing depictions of vanity and being a teenage bum :)

EK, I wholeheartedly reccomend Haibane Renmei. It's right up your alley.

Guys the point of the thread is that the stuck up person that started it wants nothing to do with 99% of the anime out there. None of the series you guys have mentioned meets her impossible requirements.

Charizard Gotf-Fits in the pedophile and angst category

Neia under7 -Don't waste your money on this crap its a great series up until the last Dvd when it has no end it throws the whole plot away.

In addition to most of the shows suggested, I'd also recommend Great Teacher Onizuka. The only thing you've mentioned that it has is a bit of pedo, but only at the beginning and it's used as a joke more than anything else.
