He's paying for the real stuff, which I encourage, though I'm ashamed to say I don't think I could do the same. At least he isn't whining about it like a baby or something. Just make do however you can. I don't have any right to point fingers or cast blame, so do what you need to do...
And I'm just older, that's the problem.
I was raised believing that if it isn't a life necessity, and you can't afford to buy it for yourself, then you go without. Anime is a huge luxury - it's like the people who go out and waste their savings on a classic car that will never leave the garage - it does *nothing* except sit there so you can look at it. If you can't afford it, then you don't need it. I would have loved to get a free vcr as a kid, but they were too expensive - we did without until we could afford one (months after the Disney movie 'Beauty and the Beast' came out - to give a time frame).
I just don't see the right a child has to cry because he can't have something he can't afford to get for himself. I never cried because my brother bought a truck he worked hard to pay for - I didn't cry because no one would give me a free one I didn't earn or need. I waited till I could get one - and I didn't go out and pick up the first $100 car I saw being offered - I wanted something worth owning. When you work for your luxuries, you appreciate that quality is worth paying a little more.
