All for tonight.

Post by DarkAlex » Thu Mar 25, 2004 8:39 pm

That is all I'm going to provide the backstory for tonight, maybe more tomorrow.

There are probably frequent spelling errors in the backstories above (every proper noun other than the series' names).
Please don't bother to post what the correct spelling is because I don't care and neither does anyone else.

If you like dark anime (crazy, messes with your head sort of things, often depressing or psychological) check out:

Lain -
Short four disk series set in a world that is very slightly different from our own in that the internet has become a society onto itself and is sometimes referred to as the world of the wired. about a innocent girl who losses her innocence when she begins to explore this world. The barriers between the worlds are breaking down. A girl commits suicide and sends people e-mails from the world of the wired. A version of Lain in the wired starts doing horrible things to people. She is being watched by strange men because of some power that she has within this other world. Looking for answers she delves ever deeper into corruption and intrigue till she finds what she is looking for: The God of the wired. Don't miss this wonderfully creepy look at the world we live in.

Now and Then, Here and There -
MODERATE SPOILERS
(Warning! Not for the feint of heart.)
Not for those who like happy anime this is a very dark anime about an optimistic young boy who meets (read, sort of speaks to briefly) a strange looking girl. The girl is attacked and calls for help. The boy proceeds to try and help her even though in doing so he is sucked into another time (another place?) where the world is a desert that can barely support human life. Civilization is crumbling but that does not prevent humanity from warring over the few remaining resources. His is trapped on a grounded and immobile flying fortress where a crazed dictator rules with a army of children captured from nearby villages. He is repeatedly tortured, and then imprisoned along with a girl who came from California and is now being forced to produce children for the madman's armies. What will two young people do in a world filled with fear and callousness? Psychologically terrifying.

Vampire Hunter D:bloodlust (theatrical)
The world was once ruled by aristocratic vampires but they are now a dying breed. Hunted for profit there is one vampire hunter more famous of them all is D, a half human half vampire dunpeal. But what will D do when hired to catch a vampire who claims that the girl he has kidnaped is in love with him and comes of her own free will? A wonderfully unique setting and amazing characters.

Evangelion - (It’s ironic that this is where I get my account name because I like the crazier parts of eva and I tend to like anime that are “like eva, but without the happy parts.” Weird.)

I don't know, but that was the first time I posted that picture. It then disappeared, so I posted it again, and now the original is back and the second has disappeared. My internet connection is acting all skrewy...

Blue Gender/Mononoke

Post by DarkAlex » Fri Mar 26, 2004 7:29 pm

Blue Gender -
I personally would only recommend this show to my enemies, but I figured it is well-known enough to deserve a background. Background: A man is diagnosed with a terminal disease and frozen for several years. He awakens to find that the entire world has been taken over by monsters, Blue, and that humanity is becoming increasingly more desperate to be rid of the vermin. For the first 3/4 of the show the main character spends most of his time bitching and whining about how he wants to go back to sleep. Then this show tries to redeem itself and, in my eyes, fails miserably.

Princess Mononoke - (Contains the information that is given in the first 15 minutes of the film)
A boy lives in a secluded village for all of his life, but one day his village is attacked by a boar-god who is sick from a bullet wound. He is cursed and sent out into the world to seek a cure to his curse or face is death with dignity. I highly recommend this movie. It is very well animated and there is a considerable amount of action in it. It is just a good movie.
