What anime made you want to really get into it?

Mine was "Iria: Zeriam the Animaton" (2 part movie), on Sci-Fi as well. I was only about 14 then but I had already heard a lot about anime, through the grapevine and a few friends. It was my first time actually watching one though, from then on I knew I had to get into it. But for a long time after that I was (as I joked with those who knew I liked it) what you might call a "closet anime freak". I knew anime (even more so then than now) was a kind of odd sub-culture and was aware that most people I associated with wouldn't understand. So I just kept my intrest secret, and grabbed any anime I could lay hands on from others I knew were into it, and watched whatever I could on TV. I stayed that way for awhile until about 2 years ago, when started meeting more people who were die-hards about it and I guess it rubbed-off. I still trace it all back to Iria though, I didn't really gain any more interest as time went on, I just learned to act like it. lol.

Creepy, those were the exact two series I bought after my first one, Ark the Lad.Tsunami Jones wrote: (next two things I began buying were Bubblegum Crisis 2040 and Martian Successor Nadesico).

speed racer the oniganl (still cant get the theam song out of my head) not the shitty re-make, i didnt know what anime was at the time because i was 7 or 8, the next big anime for me was pokemon, around 10 or 11 i realised it was crap and started watching digimon and stuck with it, i think it was the first program i ever got into at that age that had a good story to it.

this more or less got me interested in seeing the rest of FLCL, which inturn got me back into anime. Though i really wish i had a smoother intro then episode 4 ...
But before that i used to watch DB/DBZ, Sailor Moon and a bit of poekmon and digimon on TV. when i used to watch Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon i saw them as just being cartoons and being no different from the other stuff i was watching at the time. Eventualy i started actualy noticing the differences.
Now i don't even watch TV anymore, so i don't care what they show, or don't show. I have Peer to Peer networks to thank for getting me bacck into anime though, and no i'm not a net muncher.

The first anime I officially saw was a little kid movie called MY Neighbor Totoro when I was young, I don't have it anymore though. Then I got into DBZ, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, and Digimon, lol. I don't care for any of those anymore besides Sailor Moon. I started buying the DVD's. When I bought the DVD's and started watching Inuyasha(hes hot ) and Yu Yu Hakusho and Cowboy Bebop on Adult Swim is when I really got into it.
