I apologize for my blunt and harsh statements. I've been coming to the forums for a looooooong time, but come less and less as the drivel and same pointless fucking threads are reposted and reposted.

Now, i just don't care.

Contains Very Slight Eva Spoilers
Nestorath69 wrote:If it has, you need to get laid. God, how fucking desperate are you dumb shits?

Anime is to Japan what Hollywood is to america. Pointless entertainment. If I were to ask, "Has any Hollywood flick ever changed your life?" you'd all scream, douse me with holy water, and try to claw my eyes out.
Yeah, but, the moral/philosophical content of an anime can resonate with a person's real life problems. Same with anything - a film (even hollywood ones!), a book, a film, some lyrics, or maybe just a sentence muttered by a friend.

Would you be so critical if someone said that reading The Stranger changed their life? How about an apple? Ask Newton.

Personally I found the final episode of the Evangelion tv series very influential. I was never a true Shinji character - I was always able to chat about stuff and have friends - but I was always kinda unhappy because I was always acting. Pretending to like stuff I didn't, pretending to like people I didn't, and being unable to respect any girls that liked me. I kinda hated myself in a way, and went thru life pretending to be someone I wasn't, because I didn't respect myself. Living seemed like a lot of effort. Anyway, the ending brought the cliched message "it's ok to be yourself" (OMG!!) to life in a whole new way. The getting laid thing happened a lot more after that. Thinking about it now, I can trace a lot of the nice things (getting a job, making new friends, being a lot more confident dancing :), being open around new people) back to that ending. This is not to say that Eva is life changing per sé, but that it was for me. (AND IM NOT A DUMBSHIT >_<)

Conclusion: chill :P.

But the principle is the same, children. It's entertainment. This is an unhealthy obsession we're dealing with here. AMV's? a hobby. Anime? Like watching a drama on TV. you eat your snack, you laugh, you cry, fart, masturbate, whatever. When it's over, you shut it off and go back to the real world.
So you're saying that watching anime has had no effect whatsoever on anything you've done in your life? Anime's just the same as other media...movies, books or music, anything, in that you can learn from it. And anything that you can learn from has the potential and probability to change the decisions you have to make in life. Hollywood flicks have changed my life in small ways, because everything I take in through reading or watching or listening has made me who I am today. Everything surrounding a person helps shape that person. At least that's my take on the matter.

Sometimes it can be difficult to see ourselves from the perspective of others. So when we find a character, whether animated or not, that we can relate to, it gives us insight as to who we are and what we might do to change ourselves for the better. I see nothing pathetic or desperate about it.

*ahem*

ENTERTAINMENT

Look back over what you just wrote, and think. Think real hard. Both of you. You're saying that you didn't choose to make whatever changes in your personality, you abdicated control to a cartoon.

Yeah, a Cartoon. A cartoon shaped your life because you were afraid or unwilling to... If that's not ridiculous, absurd, AND pathetic, I can't honestly say what is!

...to each his own, however.

Nest, there is not really a set boundary for what is and what is not, if you think about it. While we all live on the same planet, the world each and every one of us lives in is different, and our lives are shaped by different things. Being closed minded to this idea proves only your stupidity.

I'm not close minded to your idea, however, I simply disagree with it. You believe taht we are all morons to be moved simply by a cartoon. Know what? You can get attached to any character, no matter whether they're drawings or whether they're living breathing beings. A story is a story, whether acted out by living people, or whether drawn out on paper.

A book can change your life, a movie can change your life, how is a cartoon any different?

Back on subject, if I had to say one, I'd probably say Evangelion. It made me less depressed than any type of session intended to get rid of such things. Why? Well, if someone as pathetic as Shinji could get out of depression, so could I.

Trigun made me see that "my ticket to the future is always open" but it didn't have the same impact as Evangelion.
