Regular Samurai x or directors cut? (i've seen both.)
if it kicks ass i like it.
if it gets someone else to kick ass for it i love it.

.........you are going with the ADV translation of it..... Samurai X...... You do realize that Samurai X is also a Rurouni Kenshin movie that uses the same character designs as the tv series.chabols wrote:yah i know what you mean i would like kenshin a alot more if it was done in the samurai x style but you realy should check out samurai x reflections it cover kenshin after the revlotion was over. and it even cover parts that the series didn't.
Oh, I must agree with you. The OVA look of the characters are awesome. It gives the Kenshin world a sense of gritty realism that the tv series lacked. (although Rurouni Kenshin: reflections did suck)
(by the way you should clairify what you mean by "revlotion" (I am assuming you meant "revolution") The Meiji revolution was already long over by the time the tv series came around. Considering the OVA tells the events AFTER the series it is not really appropriate to say that the OVA covers Kenshin after the revolution was over.
The OVA did have many things the tv series didn't have. (like the appearance of Tomoe's brother) However, like I said, reflections sucks. Kenshin and Kaouru were just shells of their former selves and half the OVA was spent on flashbacks leaving little time to much of ANYTHING.
Reflections is like Love Hina Again. It is just the company trying to sqeeze more money out of a franchise. Forget the OVA and buy the manga for a more detailed conclustion (....but make sure you get Rurouni Kenshin: Trush and Betrayal)

Personally, I like RK. I have the first five mangas, the first season, and the ADV Samurai X ova translations.
The first season is character developement, then the second season is story, and the third season is more character developement. If they hadn't drawn Season three out like that, it would have owned... but they did, so the Jinchu ark was lost. So meh.
Also, Kenshin's softness in the series is caused largely by the extreme desire to help others. and he isn't "turned into" a silly character, he's turned into an extremely serious character (the OVAs were made AFTER the series was finished).

The same goes for the All the Kenshin OAVs actually. The OAVs were started because fans of the series and manga wanted more after the series got cancelled.Shadowmage wrote:The OVA did have many things the tv series didn't have. Actually I found Reflections to be good, just not as a part of Kenshin really. I try to think of it more as a stand alone. Because think of it as a part of Kenshin Ruins it for me.
Actually if you read the origional Manga, he was always kinda "toonish", even as Battousai.SS3_Eldrin wrote:Yeah, not like I can really argue that point with you so I wont, i just think nobility is his main weakness... yes of course its good hes stable yet, he lost something about his character when he turned "toonish" in the series.
This is probably just me, but I don't think I would've even liked the OAV if it wasn't for me seeing the series and reading the manga first. I found the OAV characters to be to somewhat to emotionless and sedated. If not for the reading manga and knowing how he really is, I wouldn't have felt for the OAV Kenshin. Not to say that I don't like the OAVs, I just like the series more because I find the characters personalities to be more colorful. I'm sorry if I confused anyone with this statment.

I love how the characters look in the tv series. They're more fun to draw that way ^_^ But I also love the animation in that last RK OVA. (I can't remember the name of it) One of the best parts was that little flashback when Kenshin is givin the sakabatou (if that's what it was called ^__^; I havn't watched the show in a long time.)

I can't find the message to quote it anymore =( but someone asked about the kid. He name is Myoujin Yahiko.
Most of the time I don't like him too much. But at the moments when he grows and develops as a character, then I like him a good bit.
I like Sano pretty well. Hmm... I think I have to go watch again to remember why.
I thought Karou was pretty okay in the anime, but I just started reading the manga and for some reason like her a good bit better in that. *shrug*
But of course my favorite is Kenshin. (My name 'Akai Rurouni' was derived from at least two other sources of inspiration as well, but the reference Kenshin is the most obvious source.) I'm not going to go into detail right now as to why, because I'm not feeling introspective enough at the moment.
The difference in mood between Samurai X and the TV series doesn't bother me. For one thing, I believe it's quite intentional. It also seems to outwardly reflect Kenshin's inner self.
It's almost suprising to me that no one's mentioned this yet: I liked the historical aspect. I enjoyed it being set in an accurate (relatively) historical Japan, rather than some made up land or an overly genericized (yeah, I made that word up) ancient Japan.

Re:Kenshin
I agree with Akai Rurouni about the historical side of Rurouni Kenshin and the OVAs. I am interested in the character model for Himura Kenshin, Hitokiri Gensai. However I cant find much info about him.
Oh my favorite character is Saito Hajime.
