i see...sooo, what's the deal with the ranma OAV's? is it a completely different series of events that have nothing to do with the original manga/anime series? or does it happen before, during, after, etc?

Actually, the OAVs were almost a "fan-demand" sort of thing.
All of the OVAs are based directly off select chapters of the manga, however they still retain some of the anime only characters (like Sasuke).
The OVAs were also the last bit of animation for Ranma. Sadly, nothing has been produced since.
Maybe with the end of InuYasha Rumiko might consent to bringing old (but good) series back? (actually, if that's the case, teh first to return would be Urusei Yatsura, since that was the most popular of her previous titles).
I want more Ranma.

Me too... but hasn't the only viz ranma manga in the u.s. been released up to 26 or something? so when vlad86 got his, they were japanese? did you translate them yourself, or what? and where should i go to find the cheapest manga? since my library only has up to volume 22, naturally i find i'll have to either wait to get the herb story continued or buy the manga. true, i could watch the animated episodes, but my library only carries those videos that have been donated, and i really don't want to have to rent them. or buy them, which would be a lot more expensive than manga(presumably). any info or tips would be great.I want more Ranma.

Yes, mine are all the original Japanese releases. All text is in Japanese, and although I can't speak Japanese per se, I can pick out a few things that I recognize.halakahiki wrote: so when vlad86 got his, they were japanese? did you translate them yourself, or what?
Hmmm....you could try amazon.com, half.com, or eBay are your best bets.halakahiki wrote:and where should i go to find the cheapest manga?
The animation is based on the manga, but it's not quite the same.halakahiki wrote: true, i could watch the animated episodes, but my library only carries those videos that have been donated, and i really don't want to have to rent them. or buy them, which would be a lot more expensive than manga(presumably). any info or tips would be great.
Go here for all the Ranma info you could need.

May I suggest more google? It will get you where you're going if you search hard enough

If you're older than 16 you could look into getting a job. It's what I did. Plus, if you're still in school and have a job (mind you school comes first, job second(sp?), or your parents are liable to kick your ass) you'll have all that money to yourself. No bills, no grocery cost, not to mention getting a job makes paying for that car all the easier. Once college comes, well.......halakahiki wrote:actually, well, since i am still in school it's a bit expensive for me to buy mangas. if someone out there has no compulsions, could you please direct me to a site that has fan-translated mangas on it? i would be forever grateful. damn google. time-saver my ass.

yes, vlad, you're right. after considering a somewhat, ahem, unnerving document, i have given up on the attempt of obtaining pirated material, at the risk of illegality. so i put this to you: what stores are most likely to carry the latest volumes (23-27) of ranma 1/2? barnes and nobles? borders? a response would be appreciated. also, is the presence of colonel sanders in volume 18, part entitled "the plum and the prune", of any significance, besides that rumiko has a weird sense of humor? and also, has anyone wondered what it would be like if the characters in anime wore american style clothes? in ranma, they wear uniforms, judo outfits, and other generic style clothes. i just think it would be funny to see them in skater or punk or gangster type clothes. hee hee, imagine akane in low-rise jeans, dc's, a black, studded belt, and an afi shirt. heh heh.

Amazon is always good, but they don't put it into order, so finding the right volumes may take time.halakahiki wrote: so i put this to you: what stores are most likely to carry the latest volumes (23-27) of ranma 1/2? barnes and nobles? borders?
Also, rightstuf.com is considered by many to a very good dealer.
Well, if memory serves me right, I believe there was a short period in Japan where everyone was crazy about KFC, but it's over and done now.halakahiki wrote:also, is the presence of colonel sanders in volume 18, part entitled "the plum and the prune", of any significance, besides that rumiko has a weird sense of humor?
They're in Japan, so American style clothes wouldn't work.halakahiki wrote:and also, has anyone wondered what it would be like if the characters in anime wore american style clothes? in ranma, they wear uniforms, judo outfits, and other generic style clothes. i just think it would be funny to see them in skater or punk or gangster type clothes. hee hee, imagine akane in low-rise jeans, dc's, a black, studded belt, and an afi shirt. heh heh.
Also, that sounds very un-Akaneish.
But I'm sure there's fan art, or some random promo art somewhere like this.
