Why some people dislike Anime?

haha yea i know what you mean... Most people i talked to before think it's pretty much 4 losers and i joined an anime club at my school and most people where surprised i even went, and i dont know why? They say i dont LOOK like i would be the type of girl who would but thats so stereotypical, and i hate to say it but because im Portuguese they find it harder to believe. Grant you none of my other close freinds like anime.

I think I may have the answer to this question. I’ve been an anime and sci fi fan long before The Matrix made such things cool. I used to watch the old 80s dub of Dragonball. (It was horrible, name changes and bad dubbing, before that Macross (old one) and some other shows.)

I will admit conventions seem a little nerdy (who cares if its fun), but still Anime kicks ass.

If Tom Hanks can make people mourn a Wilson volley ball, I think animation is an acceptable media for mature and heart felt topics.

Anyway onto the explanation.

Simply put perception is everything.

Over There Heads
Reason one; people don't get it. Lets face it things like NGE, Serial Experiments Lain, Ghost in the Shell, and several other anime from which The Matrix was based are over a lot of people's heads.

Culture Gap
Some people don't understand Japanese humor.

(East Asian history is full of stories that are a lot more mystic and magical than the west. J.R.R. Tolkien’s, The Hobbit was so revolutionary in the 40s because in the west such surreal imagery world taken to such detail for readers other than children was unheard of. Although much of Middle Earth comes form Norse mythology.)

Racisim
Some people are assholes.

Bad First Impression
Kid shows like Pokemon get to a lot of people first. As great a Gameboy game as it was, as a show its rather plot-less and gimmick filled. Of course now the game went the same way. (Its like the movie Rocky, you know VIII, X, C, red, green, gold, zinc, plaid, etc.)

Animation
Some people can't take expression because they have a stick up their ass. Or it is a matter of its not American therefore it bad.
(Yeah right Anime follows so many more dynamic rules of art and cinema that western cartoons and comics may as well be still shots with voice over and text only respectively.

Mind Set
Some people have that 1950's mind set that 'cartoons' are for kids and anything from other places or not following a blue collar WASP model is the devil. (Like foosball, Bobby. <- The Waterboy....nevermind)

Absence
They don't know what it is or have not found a type of show they like in anime.


The best thing to do with these anime hater if they hassle you is:

Ask them if they like The Matrix and name the anime like Ghost in the Shell or John Woo movies that played a big part in the creation in The Matrix. Hell, Ghost in the Shell: the movie had the same damn green color scheme.

Find an anime that matches the type of movies or shows they like that is just so awesome they shut up.

Throw artistic facts at them to shut them.

Or do like me and ignore them because ultimately they don’t matter.

I was wondering why some people don't like Anime-related stuff or Manga.

I personally just can't resist those funny faces and keep wondering what "that anime person" is thinking in some Manga or Anime. I think that in Japanice animations best thing is that they can show how this animated person fells and what he/she/it is thinking on. When in American animation don't show any feelings from persons, they just do funny things. And France animation does it with showing only what person does and they over-react on everything.
Of course Japanice anime has it's bad sides, but it shows persons so "alive-like" that similar cannot be found else where.

So I just cannot get it why some one wants to see American cartoons with charatters whom has no-life just funny outfit and crazy actions.

Are they so spoled with "America-culture" that they aren't open any more for others?

People dont like anime because their so gelouse of how fucking hot anime characters are..... It reminds them of chobits and how people fall in love w/ the persicoms instead of people.... I can say my self that i have fallin in love w/ an anime character and im sure you your self have at least had a crush on an anime character..... or they just have sticks shoved up thier asses and cant see that anime is fun!

haha i kind of agree. My close freinds dont like anime and think it's neerdy and that statement does have truth behind it because when my freinds think of anime they think of poen because how they dress and how big there *cough* *cough* are. In some cases they are just self-Conditions, and seing a perfectly skiny girl with almost no imperfections might tend to bring them down. However thats just my opinuion......

I love anime. Some people don't.

some people think its just a cartoon and they think its for kids...but its not! anime is a way of life. ^_^

im 18 and have a 14 yea old friend(we had the same babysitter when we were little) and a few years back we used to watch pokemon, digimon, DBZ, and various gundams

now he still watches gundam and even plays the pokemon games as do I
but he never realized "hey this is anime" and i tryed to explaine it to him and he still didnt get it so i told his mom i was gonna kidnap him for awhile(did the same to my girlfriend who was into the same thing ,yes everything was planed)

Day 1
NGE(big mistake) and they didnt understand it at all

Day 2
Love Hina:had some good results with this

Day 3-4-5
Inu Yasha:never do this they liked it so much we didnt sleep for all 3 days

Day 6
Yuyu Hakisho: he thought it was cool and she loved hiei and rose guy(sorry this was 2 years ago and i havent watched since)

Day 7
we took a break and i got them into a war game iv been playing

NGE: they payed more atention

Day 9
Chobits, DragonPink, and Blue Sub 6:last day and worked wonders and we had some new anime fans

and then we slept for almost 24 hours then played the game or some random ps2 games for awhile then he went home and me and her went out

i get this from most of my friends and my dad..... every one thinks it's for kids or it's hentai. you ask people if they watch it and they either look at you like youre 4 or they think youre f***ing nuts. some of my friends watch it about 20 or so so i gusee ime pretty luckey

Exactly. Not everyone would like anime anyway. What do you absolutely hate, if anything? Why do you hate that? There are surely some people who love the same thing you hate, just as people hate anime. It's that simple, there's nothing really more to it.
