robotech! the original, were the SDF is originally created and restored.
Ummm...no...

History lesson:

SDF Macross - First released in Japan - 1983
Robotech: The Macross Saga - First Aired in the US - 1985

You know the reason why there's no subtitled Robotech? It's because the series is actually the brain-child of cobbling together three already existing (and unrelated) animes (SDF Macross, Superdimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada) into one barely working storyline.

Robotech's roots lie in Macross to such a degree that Harmony Gold (the company that produced Robotech) actually tried to block other companies from licensing later Macross OVAs, convinced they had sole ownership of the entire franchise in the US (...which, of course, gained them a hearty 'Like Hell!' from Big West (the studio that produced Macross in Japan) and, after much legal battle, while they're still allowed to release Robotech, they are strictly forbidden to touch any other Macross titles (and, as an unpleasant side-effect, Big West has jacked the licensing fee on Macross 7 to a point where companies are afraid to touch it.)

Robotech did not start Macross, Macross got spliced into Robotech...Robotech is essentially using the same series only with changed names and story elements (Hikaru Ichijo was changed Rick Hunter, Quamzin to Khyron, Global to Gloval (...who also seemed to undergo an ethnicity change), and completely changing the original definition of Protoculture.)

That said, I'm done rambling...just remember...Robotech is NOT part of the Macross timeline

get over it man, macross is the original, robotech is shitty, and this conversation is pointless, bring the conversation to the Pm's, okay? :?

My overall favorite mecha anime is probably Gundam SEED or Gundam Wing.

Yeah, the tachikoma's are pretty kick ass, especially the really big Quadraped one with the Big Ass cannon on its back.

I'm probably just being annoying but technically cars could fit under the definition of a mecha - therefore my favorite mecha anime would have to be Initial D! 8-)

Anyways, in terms of actuall mecha anime, I would have to say Neon Genesis Evangelion and RahXephon.

non anime mecha

Post by O-Kagachi » Tue Nov 16, 2004 8:42 pm

My Favorite non-Anime Mechas would probably be the Amored cores. Just pure badass, as well as being fully customizable to suit your own tastes. i prefer big ass quadropeds as my main mech.
