If you're only watching anime because it isn't mainstream, you have a problem. And really, if you think about it, it already is main stream. Just look at how much it's on T.V. now. And at least in my area last year (I think it was last year, anyways. I can't remember), Spirited Away opened in some rather big theatres, not just the small Landmark ones. Not to mention how much manga has increased (and yes, the two are directly related), I mean, .Hack was a New York Times bestseller!

And for me personally, as I've watched this rapid growth over the past few years, I can't say that I dislike it. We're getting shows from Japan now much faster then we used to, along with the fact that it's far easier to actually meet people now that are in to this, and discuss various shows and such with them.

Slow?! Try getting anime back in 1990 that was current. Today you're getting turn around times of a year! It used to be getting something that came out 5 years prior was cutting edge. Then again it was difficult to actually get anime back then. Today you can walk into any store that sells videos and find a section devoted to anime. I used to have to look through the sci-fi section to actually find maybe one or two anime videos.
We Americans really do live in a time of instant gratification. If we don't get it immediately we get pissy. Patience is almost gone.

Heh, yea, since when was the anime community NOT in support of the promotion and popularization of the hobby.

The amount of stuff they're showing on TV now is something I would really have liked to see back a few years ago - though by now I've long moved past that. But if you ask me whether the mainstream developments of the last few years have been a good thing for anime, I would say yes.

I'd be happy as long as my parents stopped saying 'Would you stop watching those kid shows' after a head flies across the screen.

Not really taking over the UK :/ Only things I've seen on tv is pokemon, digimon, yu-gi-oh etc, ack.
There are shops that sell anime though :D even if they labeled the anime section 'manga', it's still there! ^_^
A lot of the things I like though they don't sell though:( And there are no region 2's available so I have to get subbed region 1's on the internet, from America :/ but since I have a multi-region player in doesn't really matter, just wish I could get them HERE you know?
An anime magazine just recently came out over here which I think is another step :D (Really boy-orientated though, wish it was more general)

I'd like it if anime became bigger over here because I count other fans I know on one hand.

It's pretty good.

Somewhat...
A) Don't ruin it.
B) This doesn't erase the past.

Still don't a downside to anime and manga expanding.
