IGPX was officially made in Japan too and is known as anime.

My parents yell at me for watching anime and many times take my DVD's and stuff if I do something stupid. Someday I'm gonna get them to watch an anime I know they'll love like GTO then see if it's still for kids.

This goes back to the fact that most people are ignorant. I make an AMV, show it to a friend, I know he thinks it hot but he says "...hmmm....it's ...it's alright". Ya bastard!! Then my other friend said ".....no comment...". They make AMV's too but they like to hold their feeling or just won't admit something they know is true. I tell one of my friend's to watch the DVD's I let him borrow in Dub but he puts the subtitles on like a dumbass. That soooo pisses me off! It's impossible to watch Gantz in Japanese and get the same reactions.

This is a similar problem I have with music issues. I love Techno, Rock, R & B, and J-pop/rock but I get bad remarks from people when I say rock alone, especially when I got back to my old/ghettoish type city. People calling Backstreet Boys and B2K gay when they're singing about girls, saying Linkin Park is amatuer rock, repeating Eminem's saying of "nobody listens to techno!". That shit pisses me off.

Whatever. If something sounds hot, I like it. If any type of show, anime or not, has an interesting story, I'll watch it "but I don't find anything else really besides anime that has interesting stories." That's why I like this site somewhat. Alot of people here like alot of different things and they try to understand why the other person likes it and see if they like it themselves.....well, at least some people.

I don't see the problem in the first place. We are use to hearing stuff like Cartoons are for kids.. well why the hell is there family guy then? But then people start thinking that if it's for adults, it has to be comedy cause for realz, what adult animation is made in the US that isn't a comedy. Usually if it isn't a comedy it fails or nobody has heard of it, like spawn the animated feature. So don't get mad at people who make generalizations on something they barely know much about.

Wow... Sucks to be you guys. No one's really told me that anime's for kids, because most people at my school know about the violence and sex that anime has the potential of showing.
Of course, I go to a charter high school for filming and half the population watches anime of the Adult Swim and the quarter of them are actually into the genre, while an eighth are the kids who cosplay and always have anime merchandise on them. I usually don't go beyond a T-Shirt. Well, if there's ignorant bastards out there, just try to enlighten them. :P

I guess Max Payne isn't much of a yaoi fan...

School's fine. I've imprented anime into many heads during my senior year of highschool last year. Otherwise, it's just really my parents. I'm only 18 but I can imagine some 20 something year olds having problems.

But, i get really angry when someone tells me phrases like these:
''grow up man!'' ''are you a kid and you are watching these kiddy-silly staff?''.
Or sometimes, is getting worse: ''hey! you are watching anime? That ones porno-cartoons? hahaha!!''
The question is here. How all these people feel that they are able to judge something, that they have never seen. How they say that anime are for kids, if none of them have ever seen Grave of the fireflies,Berserk,Wicked city etc.
The half of people believe that anime are for kids, the others that are sex-toons. O_o !!!
I am saying all these, in order to learn, if that happens only in my country.
I want to know how is the releationship between anime and society in other countries.
Same here man! Here in the U.S. of A!

I've found that all you have to do is find out what kind of movies people like to watch and find an anime in that genra to show them. Once they realize that there is more out there than just the demon rape/hentai's or the Pokemon types they are a little bit more respectful of your hobby/obsession. It's hard to make fun of someone when you are guilty of it too.

My problem, is most of the people i meet who say all anime is porn or for kids, can't tell the difference between DBZ, Love Hina or Host Club's art styles. It's harder to convince people that not all anime are the same when they can't tell that the Akira or Spirited Away that they're watching isn't DBZ.
