All you guys raise really great points, personal opinion comes into it alot so shows really are just subjective to the viewer. Personally stuff that has been dubbed badly and has had the hell edited out of it is automatically is lessoned in my eyes.

Don't want to get pretentious about it but so far, and I emphasize so far I prefer the old style anime ( not just confined by time but style) compared to the 3d, there are exclusions and and cell shading does look cool. Just like my anime with a good storyline, cool characters and not messed with by CN.

Anime comes in three form in my opinion;

Anime that is really cool and seems to have a worth, at least for a little time

Anime that is brain gum, looks great, watchable and cool but has no subplot etc

Anime that sucks, for example later transformer series that aren't even anime, just a cash in on something that WAS good.......and series created by computer game companies (rash genralisation)
Spatchcock..........A dressed and split chicken for roasting or grilling on a spit.

Berserk or crazy...??? (image shack sucks will have a banner for this too when it doesn't!)

"Old" anime is stuff from the 60's and 70's.
If you're disappointed by what's out there then blame it on the companies that bring it over here. You also have to blame it on the popularity factor in Japan. I could be wrong, but it seems the Japanese milk things far longer than in The States. One series proves popular so another studio decides to hop on the bandwagon. Now you've got several different series and that has created a cliche storyline.
The one thing I'd like to see more of are main characters that are NOT stupid teenagers. I thought having a middle-aged man as the main protagonist made Legend of Black Heaven really cool.
