They're all "interpretations"
That is true...I suppose Tolkien's LOTR is just a written interpretation of the original story in his own mind just as the Eva series and the Eva manga are two interpretations of the same story in Anno's mind. But what he wrote is still the closest we'll ever get to knowing his own vision.

Except that the manga is an interpretation of the same story in Sadamoto's mind. :)

(I think that's one reason it's refreshingly different enough to be such a good read.)

No no its patron.

You patronise people by throwing money at them then one day they come back and throw art at you.

This is why I hate sculptors...

Why don't you reserve judgement on the movie when it comes out instead of building up a ferocious tidal wave of negativity that will only destroy what you WILL see in the movie? You're gearing up for a failure, rather than a success. Why worry about details? does it change anything that will come? When you say, "By all definitions, since this story isn't anime and wasn't supervised by Anno, and, in fact was made by the lowest bidder" without having seen the movie itself, you're condemning the thing before you ever knew it. That sounds pretty stereotypical. That's like hating someone because they're black, without knowing that they're much cooler than you could hope to imagine. How can you condemn something you haven't seen or experienced?

I know that this will probably be seen as flaming. I see it as an opportunity to ask valid questions. I prefer to wait and see with my own eyes. If it sucks, believe me, I'll be the first on the threads with an opinion. The same goes if it rocks. But not until then. Yall have a good day.
I consider completely useless posts to be spam. "I've seen this topic a lot" or any very short comment on that isn't really at all relevant to the actual discussion.

Anyway you make a good point, about waiting till the movie is out. (But I don't see where you got "stereotypical" from, maybe prejudice?) Keep in mind that not everyone is like you. I'd rather consider the most likely possibility than lie to myself. Without getting too deep into why I have all the reason to beleive that this movie won't be good, based on all the currently available information, in the long run it will help the experience for me a ton. If I lie to myself and pretend this movie is going to be half as amazing as the real thing, I'll go to the theater (provided that this movie actually gets made) and I'll be completely pissed off and dissapointed about all the crap that they do to it and how much it didn't entertain me. But if I accept the enevitability now that it isn't going to be half as good as it ought to be, when I do see the movie, any ammount of goodness in it will impress me and I'll be able to enjoy the movie. There's nothing wrong with discussing the possibilities of how this movie will turn out.

As you know, the Evangelion television series is Anno's "interpretation." He had control and made it how he saw fit. The Sadamoto manga is just a fun new perspective, it's not like many people see it and judge all of Evangelion by just the manga. Due to the nature of the possible film, it's most likely not going to be on the same plane or level as the TV series and manga. As much as I enjoy the LotR movies, I would never consider them on any kind of a similar plane or level as the real original books. You're right that the movie will just be another interpretation. But most people know that LotR is an interpretation of the book. A majority of people probably won't know what the Evangelion movie is an interpretation of.

But anyway I know this movie could be good. I doubt it will be, actually I doubt it will be made at all, but we'll see eventually I suppose.

Ok Ok don't kill me for a necropost, but I don't remember seing this link on here, and it has some hopeful information. It's an interview with Tiffany Grant, and what she says about the live action movie is hopeful.

THE PULSE: What do you think of the plans for a live action NGE movie? What have you heard about it?

GRANT: I think it's going to be INCREDIBLE! Since my husband, Matt Greenfield, is one of the producers, I know WAY more about it than I am allowed to tell >=)

The folks who produced the 'Lord of the Rings' movies down in New Zealand, WETA, didn't want to be out of a job when LOTR finally wraps all its post production, so they were looking for work. Since many of them were Eva fans (realize that the entire show has aired in Australia at least twice on regular television), they thought why not do a live action Eva film?

Rest assured, since ADV and Gainax are both on board for this project, it will be handled with kid gloves. And, if it's successful, you can look for one or two more sequels since it won't be possible to tell the whole 26 episode story in one two-hour movie. If you want to get an idea of the types of techniques that will be involved, just watch the behind-the-scenes documentaries on the LOTR DVDs. Amazing stuff!

THE PULSE: These characters are obviously very near and dear to your heart. Whom would you like to see cast in the film?

GRANT: Funny as it may sound, I haven't thought about too many of the parts. I do have an idea about a possible Asuka, but I don't think I am at liberty to say. However, since the film won't begin shooting for about two years, keep your eyes out for up-and-coming thirteen-year-olds who will be fifteen when filming begins. ;-)

Don't worry over the necropost, it was a good post. Kinda clarifies some earlier things mentioned in this topic.
