I laughed my ass off when all the egyptians were dying in prince of Egypt it was hoho funny I think or was that Haha funny? Anyway Most anime are funny. So thats kind of a dull point. I would like to see Wile E Coyote and Keitaro try to kill each other that fight would last for hours. I will name one big difference between American cartoons and Japanese Cartoons. Ones made for Japanese to understand the Others for Americans. Cultural references are what set the two apart.

Just curious -- what do you consider shows like the old Transformers (and I believe Rainbow Brite as well) which were animated in Japan for American audiences?
Not that I like to call anime "cartoons" - I just don't think there's always a clear-cut line to separate the two.

personally i agreee with clara that it's an insult to call anime a artoon just because of the thought behind that word cause thats whats important, the thoughts that words induce, cartton has that conotation to it that makes everyone think "cartoony" and kind of that kiddy mind set. i understand it's kind of a rediculus argument and forgive me if i repeat things already said but words and thought go hand in hand and while words in themselves don't have anything wrong with them, but it's a fact that certain words induce certain thoughts. so in order to change thoughts we need to change the language. anime: sounds japanese, used all over to seperate them from american cartoons, it's good word hat brings out the good thoughts for it's object. cartoon: american in origin, used as a general discription for all animated things, brings out a sort of a childish thought, now anyone who has seen anime knows that watching it with a childish thought will make you miss all the important things and avoid all the hatred caused by certain scenes like in the end of berserk, it's a rape and if you miss it you have no idea why gats hates griffith with so much passion. so i believe that by using certain language we can encourage a certain thought process and thats whats wrong with anime too many people get the wrong idea with all the blood and guts and sex, and so we obviously need to change the way anime is thought of and this, while it is a small step, is one in the right direction

least you can see that Clara is thinking. She made like.... 12 contradictions in this thread. Most of which were in the first few pages but the latest,
you say anime deals with 'special love feelings'? Weren't you just complaining about Hentai, where none of the girls smile, they should be happy to be in such a special position well some of em... . Or is Hentai not anime... cuz Tsuji is under the assumption that you are lumping all anime together, I don't think you are. I just don't think you know what your talking about.

Clara might not have a clear argument but she's just fighting the good fight for the rights of Anime. What I mean is that a lot of Anime (not all of course) is above the kiddy stuff that a lot of cartoons (not all of course) are. I have to deal with this every time I watch an anime, my mum insists on calling Cowboy Be-Bop "Baby Be-Bop" which is more than a little annoying considering it isn't at all a baby programme.
I'm not saying I'm completely on one side, just that Clara's argument doesn't deserve all the flak it's recieving.

Flak? I'm not giving it flak. I'm just pointing out that it is incorrect.Clara might not have a clear argument but she's just fighting the good fight for the rights of Anime. You cannot possibly say there are no animated pieces from Japan that aren't cartoons. Just like you can hardly say that all animated pieces from America are cartoons.

Well I agree with Clara they it's an insult to call them "artoons" as well. But if you agree that it is an insult to call them cartoons then you're just as stubborn and ignorant.personally i agreee with clara that it's an insult to call anime a artoon
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but when you grow up, you'll see what a jackass you were.
