the fans dind't just demand the two films, but sent death threats to anno on what would hapen if he didn't make the films, thats why your left with more questions than answers, i guess its just Anno's way of saying screw you.
J.F.Y.I the death threats actually appear in the end of evangelion, althought can't remember exactly where, watch with the comentary to find out.

why is it that Eva is so popular but noone likes it?
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Theres a cross section of otaku who have a really big influence on others. They are dumb enough to like EVA, and raise it to some godly pedestal. So as to not feel left out, the non rabid EVA fans jump into it and start loving EVA too. This is done just to be accepted by others, which is all fine and good. Although some of us otaku aren't as easily swayed and we see EVA for what it truly is. On the subject of the movies I'm gonna say they were Anno's way of saying fuck you to his fans who had badgered him for so long about it. I guess you could akin it to William Shatner telling Trekkies to get a life a ways back. I need some more tylenol.

Actually I rather enjoyed the movie endings, they didnt leave me with questions, I understood the series pretty well, at least, I believe I did. Also, I didnt see why everyone said the movie was so depressing. I thought the end was rather uplifting. "Anyplace can be heaven, as long as you choose to live. There will be chances to be happy everywhere" and such, didnt seem so depressing to me :|

A prequel might be good for finding out more about adam, lillith, the lance, the dead sea scrolls, seele, gehirn, and the expectance of the angels, as well as the character's younger years. Not necessary, and certainly most of the information can already be interpreted from the series, but it might shed some light on the still shady topics.
I dunno, I'm neutral on the topic :\

I like it mostly for it's uplifting message and highly developed characters. Oh yeah and the Evas are cool too, but that can only get you so far.

Why do you feel the necessity to bash our anime tastes? No matter what you say, I like Eva because...I like it. You don't see us bashing your anime tastes. I might add on your profile you have Eva as your #1 anime. You also have Lain which I absolutely hate (I am in the minority and I understand that). Not to say that some fans aren't easily influenced as you mention, but you're implying that the rest of us are mindless and easily swayed. Live and let live man.

(nod nod)
Heard the same thing. I guess the fans can have their say, but ultimately it is the creator's...creation and he can end it however he wants. We are the ones who choose to watch it.

I want to see what'd happen if DnR and EoE didn't come into existance... Sorta like the stuff at http://www.eva-r.com. I think that with that, Eva would be reborn and more blood spilling (btw, me and friend are trying to figure out how much blood an eva has because of a musiv vid i say...) and things blowing up... I want to see Eva unit 5 (or 6, can't remember) in action and new pilots coming in and Asuka finally waking up and having confidence in herself once again...

**Spoiler** Actually I think it was Eva 03 that blew up in Nevada, Unit 04, piloted by Touji, destroyed by the dummy system,

Actually BrsrkEva was making reference to Eva-R, which picks up after the series, so in essence DnR and EOE never took place. But as you read you find out that Unit 06 from Eva-R is actually Unit 05, they have simply chosen to name it 06... for reasons yet unknown to me... I actually just started reading it myself.
