At least 90%* of all anime is utter crap. We just don't see them, they don't get picked up by licensors and fan-subbers don't want to waste their time on them.

*and about 35% of all statistics are made up... think about it.
Cute... I like the Stat thing...

However, you're absolutely correct... just like any form of entertainment, most of it is crap (or at best, mundane)

There are far too many animes that simply are knock offs of more popular anime titles. There are many uninspired titles and many titles that are just an excuse for fan service.

However... anime is HUGE... I mean, we have title ranging from children's programming to hard core pornography to comedy to drama to romance to combat to science fiction and so on and so on.

Therefore, there are a lot of anime titles a person won't like just because of the genre.

Some people base their tastes on more superficial things.

I myself prefer a well written anime over a well animated anime.

I know some anime titles with spectacular animation and a story that leaves you cold.

Then of course... there's crap I like.

Let's take Magic User's Club. I don't think it's that good a show and I would never list it as a great anime, but it's fun and I like to watch it anyway.

Ninja Scroll has spectacular animation and some really great characters (though I wouldn't include the main character amongst those), but all in all I think it's badly written and a sub-par anime. I still like it because it has some great fight sequences. Like some dumb action movies here in America, I enjoy the action, but action alone does not a great title make.

Just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

Anyway... just had to comment.

I had the luck of actually catching the first episode or movie, can't remember cause I got rid of it. But yea, that one was just odd and boring. I spent most of the time just waiting for something to develop. I still don't remember how it ended.

And Lum. She's an ooooold baggy butt $2 street whore.
I still haven't finished it. Forgot I had it, and when I remembered I just moved onto another thought. I don't think I could give that away.

It was a movie. Ended the way I described it. Hero (I forget his name, it wasn't worth remembering) refuses to kill Kimera because he wants a piece. They run off happily and produce many alien vampire children (whom we KNOW eventually overrun the world even though the anime doesn't go into that).

Can't understand why, either, considering Kimera had the UGLIEST body I've ever seen (even from my female perspective, she was fugly). No boobs (she literally had a guy's chest), small hips...it was just disturbing *shudder*

Oh THANK YOU! I thought Titanic was horribly written as well. Unmotivated and underdeveloped characters in a spectacular set. That's what I thought. Even the romance isn't at all romantic. I felt no remorse or sadness when (Oh spoiler!!!) he died. I wouldn't have cared if she died either since I had absolutely no feelings for either of them.

I would've much rather had either a GOOD romance or a GOOD movie about the historical part of Titanic. They could've made a good dramatic movie about the people on board that were facing death. Instead they went for crap.

When it first came out, I kind of liked it.

It's worth mentioning for the sake of comparison that, at the time, I also liked Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys. ::hangs head in shame::

I highly suspect that if I were to watch the movie now, I would find it trite, predictable, and blatantly manipulative to the point of being an annoyance.
