Somewhat related since we are talking about Kenshin, but this link provides edits of Episode 11 which if you have seen is the last episode of Aoshi's arc.

The edit list has 40 edits. GEEZ-US!!!! I said it in another thread and just KNEW they would butcher this episode (like the others) to the point where it is unrecognizeable. Say what you want about gun violence and death, but this episode is absolutely ESSENTIAL to Aoshi's character. To remove the deaths as well as the lines the Oniwa Group say is RETARDED. Now Aoshi's motivations later are...meh. I can't believe this! Argh!

Also, they took out Megumi's ATTEMPTED suicide. I know why they cut this, but I thought this was an important scene since it illustrates growth in her character (well...later) and depth.

I HATE YOU CARTOON NETWORK!!!![/url]

Edits for Trigun and other stuff

Post by markedman247 » Sat Apr 05, 2003 5:09 am

First, the voices: I have people who hate Wolfwood's voice, but for the sake of that, they only saw the "Quick Draw" contest first (i wanted to show a NON-pivotal ep with Wolfwood being Wolfwood to do the "drug dealer" approach to viewing).

Now to the edits: BDN will have the second half edited (the train driver), we know that Legato will definately be a cut to vash wincing as the gun shot is heard. Its funny to watch Bebop and know that everythings cool as long as a kid or woman isn't shot in cold blood, or that suicide is quickly removed. That would leave out Cain. And even the amounts of gun to the head (although not violent but showing that the gun will be there) of "the Cyclops" does to Vash. However, watching Chapel the Evergreen being tortured, the countless assault on the "Ship," and the general "comedic pain (the Boomerang hitting Loose Ruth, the arm and neck snap in the Frank Morgan [sp?]) will be left in. I haven't seen the Cartoon Network version of the show. I own it and have people who are always asking to watch an ep again.

In honesty, I love Trigun. I like the CN and how its trying to mass expose Anime to America. If it wasn't for CN, "Big O" and "Outlaw Star" would be on the Anime rack in many a store with people saying "yeah, its good." And I doubt that "Bebop" would have the huge following it has. It would be big but not the MASSIVE context that it is now in the US. That being said, there are some shows that should not be done due to the actual nature of the show. "Trigun" in all its moral text ("Yes, Violence can happen but there is always another way") probably shouldn't have accepted by CN. "Blue Gender," in its quasi-ecological themed way, also has some disturbing scenes, that when edited, remove some of the soul of the show. (I remember the kid in the town near the end of ep 4? That was a eye-widening moment). Not to mention its "Space Station" ep with enough goings-on in the background that it would probably make the ep 18 mins long if edited out.

I support CN for what its doing, I can only hope that if the "Anime Channel" does take off it won't be edited and maybe the SAP (with Closed caption) would give it the appeal most like.

I am sorry if this kinda sounded like a rant or that I sounded disjointed (lack of sleep).

Anyway...

Agreed, its not perfect, and almost no dub is better than the original, but its good ENOUGH.

And i dont think Milly's all that bad. Her japanese counterpart sounded about as airheaded.

hey ... not to deviate too far off the topic .. (well .. shit, after this post, cause its pretty OT)
anyone ever see the outlaw star dvd's? ... when i was watching my lil bro's awhile back .. i noticed a few things ... that would be kinda iffy if CN left em in... (besides the language ... i KNOW CN had to edit alot of that)

Early on in the series their is a scene where gene gets attacked by the pirates and is crawling through some grass.. leaving a blood trail ... After seeing some of the eva edits this, and a few early fights had to be edited?

then a few epis' later he is captured and points his gun toward the dino. looking cops head ... (a big no-no in any other show aired)

Then episode (23 maybe?) with the Tenrei hotsprings ... i thought this was pushing the censors .. and dont believe they could have ever aired this without a new makeover...

or heres a biggie .. when they make fun of fred for "batting for the other team" ... i never got a chance to see OS on CN .. any one know of a place i can see the edits, or maybe fill me in on the biggest ones?

sorry if i deviated a lil' too far :)
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.
I've seen it happen, man! I've SEEN IT!..

The OLS edit was horrid, it made me want to cry, they cut literally 5 min from each episode, and replaced so many words it made my head spin. Hell, in the 1st ep they had Gene and Jim playing fucking GO FISH instead of poker, damn toonami. Oh well.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

MAS PRODUCTIONS wrote:When Frank Marlin is thrown out of the bar at the beginning of the episode on of the gunman put the barrel of his gun between Frank's head and said something. What they showed was frank hitting the ground, the gunman raising his gun and then they used a still frame of frank as the gunman said his line. Although this edit is small and un-important, it means that future gun to heads will be cut.

******** Extreme Trigun Spoilers ahead********

That means that this will be cut:

1. When Kite has the gun in his mouth.
2. More than likely the Legato scene when he is shot will be cut
3. When Cain T. Longshot commits suicide.
4. Not a head shot but when Sanzi (or what ever his name is ) is shot due to the fact he is a kid and is killed. Cartoon Network has always been against violence against children and woman ie slaps and hits to head.

There are quite a few more scenes to list but I dont want to go too in depth.
damn.... this brings up ALOT of complications... in the last episode everyone of those scenes flash a number of times, not to mention the final showdown between knives and vash... also i don't know how religious CN is but i can see a bunch of christian assholes (jerry falwell anybody?) thats going to protest nicholas wolfwood and his big ol' gun cross thing, does anybody else see this coming from the man that tryed to ban teletubbies? oh well, i hope they don't destroy my beloved trigun....

I think they'll be more concerned with the fact that Wolfwood uses a crucifix to hide eight handguns, an sub-automatic machine gun, and a miniaturized bazooka.

how they work their way around that one will be great.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Oops, my bad, I read "protest" as "protect" for some reason...

Yeah, I think they'd have issues with Wolfwood's little mini-arsenal of doom there.
