Arigato, you know a whole bunch of stupid aparently people, this means nothing

[sarcasm]What an astounding command of the English language![/sarcasm] You know, insults that make yourself look dumb, especially when insulting someone on their intellect, are the worst kind. Although this was indirect, I still found it offensive and rude.

Over-rated (as I duck for cover):

Ah! My Goddess - I really liked this short series, but I felt that it was lacking and shouldn't deserve as much attention as it gets. It almost seems that Keiichi is having a one-way relationship with a toaster-oven (Belldandy). Sure, she's nice and sweet and pretty, but when it comes down to it, she doesn't seem very bright or have much of a personality...at least her sisters have character. Then again, there are other anime that have the "pretty, air-head" lead female role too.

Ranma 1/2 - Don't worry, I'll hurt myself later for this. This is probably my favorite anime, and yet I think it's carried on too long. As far as I know they're still making the show (since '89) and are making season #8 or something. Things started getting bad in season #4 when the principal shows up. There are still episode gems once in a while, but you have to dig through exploding pineapples to find them. I wish the show could end gracefully...one still must have hope.

DBZ - Everyone already knows this, so I will say no more.

Excel Saga - I didn't really care for the beginning or the end or the series, although there was some fun stuff in the middle, like what the "public officials" are forced to become. Unfortunately my favorite character, Space Butler, was only in like one or two episodes also. If the story focused around Menchi I'd be much happier.

Under-rated:

Irresponsible Captain Tylor - For some reason, this anime doesn't seem to get much attention around here, although it's one hell of a funny series. Just ignore the OAVs, which were made by the deceased creator's daughter. Go! Rent! Buy! Live for today! And, oh yeah...Laugh!

Saikano - Wow...this anime put me through an emotional rollercoaster ride...mostly tragic and depressing. It's relatively new, which could be the reason why many don't know about it yet.

Ai Yori Aoshi - This is another one of those "boy surrounded by lovely girls" anime, like Love Hina or Happy Lesson to name a few. This one seems to have a little more heart though, and digs a little deeper into some of the characters.
-If dolphins had thumbs, we'd be screwed.

Nabeshin= Afro-man. However, Azumanga Daioh > Nabeshin, therefore Azumanga Daioh > Afro-man.

THATS RIGHT DUCK AND COVER YOU SON OF A BITCH!

lol. Actually I have to agree with you on Ranma. It is also one of my favorite animes, and I couldnt have described the anime any better. It fades starting with season four but still has its occasional gem, worth the exploding pineapples to find.

AMG is a very overrated series, one that I think I forgot to mention in my original post. To me its the very definition of an average anime, but I found out (after I saw it) that everyone likes it a whole hell of a lot, at least it seems.
ArigatoMyna wrote:I don't need to see it to make the statements I made. I don't have to see Eva to know that out of 50 people in the Evansville anime club who had seen it only one person liked the main character. The rest hated the main character. Only three people had any idea what the story was about and they argued about it constantly so no one had any real clue.
Yes you do. I hated the main character (your supposed to hate him). I loved the series. After seeing the series once and paying very close attention, I understood 75% of it. After seeing it the second time, I understood about 90% of it. The beauty of NGE is that it leaves a lot of information barely explained and open ended, meaning its probably impossible to understand it 100%. However, this method leaves us grasping at the plot while we watch it, trying to figure out exactly whats going on and how the show is going to end. Considering that Anno was putting his entire heart and soul into this anime (it was, in a sense, his suicide (and in other ways, his anti-suicide) letter of a suicide that never came to be), theres a lot of stuff beneath the surface of these characters as well.

I didnt find the action OFFENSIVE, but it was my least favorite part of the show (of course the action is really well done). I really loved how they developed the characters and either made us care or made us interested in what happened to them. NGE kicks it up a notch when Asuka comes in, and IMO the show gets better and better with every episode after that. The last two episodes are MADDENING, but the movie does a good job of "re-explaining" the last two episodes from a much more competent perspective. I didn't particularly like the first 7 episodes, but when the show ended I liked it so much that I was rooting for an ending which would support a second season, even though it was obvious that wouldnt happen. That being said, its the only show I've ever seen where even people that didnt understand it at all really liked it, but dont let that fool you into thinking that the show is for mindless fanboys. It has as much depth and emotional power as any anime I have ever seen.
