They need to get more american cartoon voice actors into doing anime dub. As long as they don't overshadow some of the better english dub actors in the biz now.

What do you mean exactly? There are voice actors who does both American and Japanese animation such as Ocean Group.

Subby! I can't stand dubs, they annoy me SO much

The only dub I can tolerate is Hellsing because of the fact that it takes place in England and they have British accents. I mean...sure you have to read the subtitles, but it's in its original format. Dubs screw stuff up so much...[/quote]

Hmm i have a couple views on this.

I myself prefer subs because i believe it is the authors original idea and dialouge as opposed to the slightly changed to drasticly changed english voice overs. However shows such as cowboy bebop and Hellsing IMO sound better with dubs. And while i cant stand to watch a dub if ive seen an ep of the anime subbed, i can tolerate it if i start out watching it with the english voices.

In the end subtitles are the 'original' and thats the main reason i prefer them. *shrugs*

Unless you've been watching anime for a long time (decades, not a couple of years) you really don't have an appreciation for how far dubbing quality has come. Complaining that English voices don't synch with lips is silly. Japanese voices don't synch up well with lips either. What the Japanese have going for them is actor quality. Since America has seen anything animated as kids stuff the American market for good voice actors for animated features is kinda years behind that of the Japanese.
I like to watch stuff dubbed and since the advent of the DVD I don't have to worry about which video tape I want to buy (sub or dub). Once upon a time I didn't have a choice and would have to buy subbed because there was never a dub version.
Today I laugh at the dub version of Macross II:Lovers Again. The emphasis on one line that goes "over 80 years AGO" by Hibiki is funny. Today's dubbing blows this stuff away. The only time to complain about dubbing is when some jackass takes their "artistic vision" too far and hacks up the original Japanese dialogue. I haven't seen it but what the director of the dub of Initial D did is inexcusable. TokyoPOP changing names, music, dialogue, etc. is wrong by today's standards. I realize that minor changes must be made when dubbing, but this is rediculous. Haven't they heard the bitching and ranting over previous titles with lesser infractions?
Anyway, I like dubs first then go back and watch subbed to pick out the differences.

If there's something that really bugs me with some dubbing, it's some of the outrageous changes made...it's one thing if they're small differences, but if you ever compare the dubbed and subbed versions there are some MAJOR differences. Also, I never saw this myself, and I can't even remember what anime it was, but I remember somebody telling me that they aired a show in the US where they changed a character's sex. How the hell do you do that?! I had the most frightening mental image of Kurama being passed off as a girl....::shudders::
