However I will take subtitles over a horrid dub job any day.

Ever try to watch the dub of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon?

Talk about a flat untimed piss poor dub. But with subtitles it was awesome.
The dub is pretty good actually.

What? You call that dub BETTER? God I hate it when people (like dubbers and movie directors) take stupid worthless content and plaster it all over everything. Not everything is about sex!
The scene in the show was just a comic relief, not relavent to the plot in any way. The script writer and voice director probably thought people would find the scene more funny if they changed it a bit, to suit the comedic tastes of the majority of western civilization. But if you don't like it, you don't like it. No one is forcing you to laugh at it.
Once again, sorry for making such a stupid post

x2

Certainly one of the best "Chinese" dubs I've heard, although the Jet Li ones are damn funny :¬ D

It wasn't a stupid post at all, it was a good post.

It just happens that your example showed me how much I dislike Saiyuki's dub. It doesn't matter if it has to do with the plot or not, vulgarizing a shows content is still vulgarizing it. Directors and script writers vulgarize things way to much, it's extremely annoying. If some people decide to do that, it's not so bad, but its done so much. Is there nothing to be said for keeping content accurate? Not everything is for the masses.

I can watch either or but I've sort of just become accustomed to watching dubs since I have several friends who refused to watch it subtitled unless it is the only option(Like in Magical Project S).

Sub a Dub Dub

Post by HeavyMetal » Sun Jun 06, 2004 11:16 pm

The english dub of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon had no emotion.

The action picks up and the voice over just talks faster. aaaahhhh!!

They voice over stunk. The Chinese version had....what was it...oh yeah acting.

I'll take sub over that.

Of course the problem with anime dubs usually comes in during a company change. Take DBZ Pioneer passed it to Funiamtion. So Goku arrives on Namek with new powers and an entirely different voice cast.

This doesn't seem to happen as much anymore. :D
