Underrated anime?

Are you implying the darn thing STILL isn't popular/well-liked enough?Kracus wrote:Naruto
I never thought of it as overrated, but I certainly don't think Naruto lacks sufficient exposure. It's probably the most popular unlicensed anime I've ever known
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

i realy liked the series "gilgamesh" that was released at animesuki not that long ago but the forums there gave it bad reviews.
the animation in my opinion is supreme and the story is dark, moody and psychological. What more do you want out of an anime?

Saw it a while ago on International Channel. I was unable to watch the final season of it though. If you're interested, there are a few DVDs available at Anime Castle. I keep forgetting to get them.Heero_Yuy84 wrote:Well I'll be jiggered...someone else knows about thisDTJB wrote:Armored Tropper Votoms. Classic, rarely noticed, Sunrise mecha anime.

Another I'd like to add. 3x3 Eyes. Although I haven't seen the anime version yet, I would suggest checking it out anyway, since I have a good amount of the manga. It's a really good horror story that gets pretty graphic at times, but there's humor to lighten the mood once in a while. The plot is basically about Pai, a triclop style demon who travels with her undead servant Yakumo in hopes of turning them both into human. Heck, Rob Zombie supposedly likes it.
Probably too busy to be here right now.

Funny how the initial run of Mobile Suit Gundam didn't do so well. Then came the release of the movie length trilogy of the TV series and the Japanese fell in love with it. I had a hard time sitting through the 3 movies. Movies over 200mins takes its toll on me.Heero_Yuy84 wrote:Well I'll be jiggered...someone else knows about thisDTJB wrote:Armored Tropper Votoms. Hmm...now, the underrated factor here is relative, but for the sake of getting it out of my system (...yeah, we all knew this would come):
Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 - I say it's relative since:
In Japan, it's still surprisingly well received even today. In the US however, more often than not, it tends to get passed over by the US audiences more interested in the newer looking Wing and SEED. It's a damned shame since most of the people seem to ignore it almost purely on the basis that it was animated in 1979 (...let's face it, no amount of complaining is gonna fix that...if it really means that much to you, watch the movie trilogy, they cleaned up quite a bit of the animation.) Dated animation aside, the story is still one of the best Gundam titles out there in the US. (and to be fair, the animation's actually pretty good given the time period it was made in.)
...told you it was inevitable

Re: Hidden Story
It's really good in my opinion. Where else in anime do you get a main character that's going through a mid-life crisis? Most of the time the character is in their teens. Very emotional. Plenty of praise in it about UFO and Michael Shenker. There is a part in the series where they butcher the spelling of Michael Shenker on a pair of concert tickets, but then again that happens pretty much throughout. A good knowledge of Japanese lifestyle and language will help you understand some of the jokes a little better.HeavyMetal wrote:P.S.
Legend of Black Heaven looked awesome. Does it do a good job as rock based anime?
(A lot of rock movies come off as goofy due to time compression and/or bad acting.)
I believe you're talking about Manuel Noriega and the U.S. forces blasting metal at his holdout to get him to come out. If I were him I would've just raised the horns. \m/Rock actually has saved the day before though. I think it was during the Panama Canal incident that AC/DC and Jimmy Hendrix were played on big mounted speakers to get a political leader out of hiding in a city. The guy left still cursing the music.

Aren't some of them fairly new? Maria-sama ga Miteru is getting known and I have a feeling Kaleido Star is starting to get some credits (even though none of those titles sound good to me. Not saying they're bad, just saying they aren't my type.)angelx03 wrote:There's no love for Gokudo.
Also there are Twin Spica, Maria-sama ga Miteru, Kaleido Star, Tweeny Witches, and Sweet Valarians.
*Shrugs* Texhnolyze? Not because many people dislike it (I understand their feelings), but because many say IT HAS NO PLOT. They're wrong, THERE IS A PLOT, but it's UNFINDABLE UNLESS YOU PAY ATTENTION TO EVERYTHING IN IT which can be PRETTY BORING I UNDERSTAND, but THERE IS ONE IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT SHOWING PRETTY PICS.
And COMPLEX DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN DEEP so IT'S NOT BECAUSE THE PLOT IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND THAT IT CAN COMPETE WITH THE BIBLE IT WASN'T THEIR PURPOSE.

Noir: It's not everyones cup of tea and the plot is terribly slow in the beginning, but once it comes together.. w00t
Kiddy Grade: Slow beginning, but picks up fast.
One Piece: only a mather of time, curently addicted to those pirates
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien: what can i say, emotions runs high all along.
