Ky, also from guilty gear, has a move named, "ride the lighting" a name from the band Metallica
Most of the charactors from the Guilty Gear games are based off rock influences. That is one of the things the creators tried to do. Makes an awesome game!

And Chi Chi, reminds me of Folgore from Konjiki No Gash Bell. Not sure why...

Actually, Himura Kenshin is only loosely based on a real assassin named Kawakami Gensai, but VERY loosely. There are other characters in the TV series are are more closer based, like Kamiya Kaoru was based off Watsuki's daughter, or Hajime Saito was based off the real Hajime Saito, etc. And of course, there are some that are based on American characters, like Jin-E's physical image was based on Gambit from X-Men.

Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho was a big fan of the band Metallica. He even added a part to his manga where Kuwabara goes to a 'Megallica' concert.

With all the music video game references, I felt like adding that Rockman is a named for rock-and-roll. (which explains the characters Roll, Bass, and Treble)

Here's one: for all of the mystical and religious symbolism that is forever ingrained in Neon Genesis Evangelion--the names of the Angels, the resemblance of the EVA units to the Lords of Hell, all that Kabbalah stuff--it was only put into the show because the producers thought "it looked cool".

Nothing more than that.

Well... that explains the Tree of Sephiroth. I always could never figure out why that was in there. But then again, some of those religious references seem to fit in appropriately in with the series with some background meanings.

I also heard that if they knew how many people were going to react to it, they would have done something different than having all of those references put in.
