Err...I think you're misunderstanding. As I have stated (over three times), you're free to like whatever version you want b/c, as you said, it enterains you.
By the same token, I personally like seeing things the original way. It has nothing to dow ith me forcing myself to like it or refusing other things...it has everything to do with the same thing as you...entertainment...and to a degree respect. You should listen to your own argument, those of us who like to see things the original way...LIKE to see things that way. We aren't so stupid or brainless (as you make it seem) that we just watch it and enjoy it even when we don't.
Again, for me...I'm a purist, I like seeing this unaltered. Others don't...that's fine. Live and let live. I am just stating facts about dubbing in general and illustrating my distaste (since this is a public forum). Again, you need to really re-think your opinion of "purists," we like it that way...plain and simple (just like ppl who like dubs).

Spirited Away
Princess Monoke
Outlaw Star
Hand Maid May
Love Hina (I thought Keitaro and Naru sounded cute, but thats about the only reason)

Well some dubs are most definitley better than subs even if the main characters voice makes the character a little different (linas way more like a redhead in the english dub) Let's face it any anime can be dubbed good or bad depending on how much effort is put into the dub. Only because I have been watching mostly fansubs recently do I have a preference for subbed anime. When I buy a commercial release I always watch it dubbed first. As far as asukas emotional range wtf shes a bitch! a snotty 14 year old stuck little whore with psyche problems I saw her in the japanese version that's the impression I got. I can't imagine watching her dubbed would change my oppinion of her.

From the animes I've seen, I would have to say that, of course, Cowboy Bebop had a great dub. I also liked Kenshin, Ah! My Goddess the movie, Yu Yu Hakusho(i liked better then the sub), Inu-Yasha is a pretty good one, and also Ranma isn't too bad. I use to only like the dub, but after watching subs I feel in love with them, but there still are some good dubs out there. I know this probably isn't the best thing, but I find a some dubs take some getting use too.

Surprisingly, Mr.Oni, I agree. Not that it's "better" necessariliy, but that it could be to a person. As much as people don't believe it, I don't have a problem with people liking dubs...it's comments like the earlier ones that make me mad. The gall to say such things about someone else's work...anyway Mr. Oni..just thought I'd say I agree and appreciate your input (that isn't about little girls)Mroni wrote:Well some dubs are most definitley better than subs even if the main characters voice makes the character a little different (linas way more like a redhead in the english dub) Let's face it any anime can be dubbed good or bad depending on how much effort is put into the dub.

you know, this really is a pointless argument, its true, the anime is art made by a creator in his/her vision, what right have we to go and butcher it with shoddy voice actors, that really couldn't give a damn about it, after all, its just a job nothing more nothing less......well thats theyre opinion, which theyre free to have......however, the true version of any anime is the version that matches the creators vision..a half arsed dub is not the original, and therefor, wasnt part of the vision.........hmm, seem to be going round in circles here....anyhow your free to believe as you will, if three months of ranting about subs vs dubs hasnt changed anyone view on this topic, then it probrably never will.....

I feel that dubs can only work on certain things, dependant on the genre. For instance, something like Cowboy Bebop (which has appeared on a lot of your lists so far) is very clearly very heavily influenced by Western style programmes. The characters, settings and so on fit a westen sci-fi setting, and hence when the dub actors- who are all very able and well-cast- do it, it sounds right. In this case, I like the dub equally to the sub- most of the time I agree with dwchang in that I always prefer the sub. Likewise for Evangelion- I like both sub and dub equally, and feel that each interpretation of the work has something to offer.
In something like Kenshin (whichever dub you wish to listen to), I find that the dub is not a good idea because of the setting. Kenshin is clearly Japanese and living in Japan, speaking Japanese in a culturally-rich, historically set background. Hence hearing him speak with an American accent, for me, immediately throws off the illusion of Meiji-era Japan that the series otherwise maintains. In this case, original language is clearly better for my purposes.
Finally, anything like KareKano or Excel Saga with frantic madness is often difficuly (read: impossible) for a non-Japanese VA to handle.
