I just hope they don't make it into a copy of the original. Live action is different enough from animation that leaving it completely the same would produce a weaker movie overall. How they handle the adaptation is what's going to make or break this movie, I think.
If it turns out anywhere near as good as the X-Men movie adaptations then I'll be satisfied. You can change some of the visual design and story elements while still staying true to the original.

arg, don't make a live action version of Eva ... it's fine as it is ... it dosn't need any more monkey wrenches to be tossed in it's gear boxes ... weren't the english dubs enough?

If they were doing a SERIES, then I'd be jumping for joy. If they were doing a bunch of movies, I'd be okay with it. But a single movie? Do they seriously expect to do Eva ANY kind of justice in an hour and a half?

...i have fear for this movie, but of course i will watch it...very carefully
i am not scared that the graphics will be crappy, people keep comparing with other movies done in the past, but is that fair? since those are OLD movies and all, weta works did a great job with LotR, and i think that since they've chosen Eva to make a life-action of, they should realize the significance of the series and not make it into something like xXx where it's predominantly action.
the money issue people keep bringing up is weird to me, unless you have a source of information to know the budget behind the movie, i don't think it's fair to say that ADV doesn't have the money to do it because just maybe they DO have the money. if you DID have a source, what was it?
another issue in this thread was about character hair? life-action rei? i don't see a problem with it, and asuka just has pig-tails, what's the deal? can someone give me an example of someone in eva that had a weird hairstyle? unless they throw Yugioh in there, i don't think that'll be a problem.
the life-action kite thing is something i think would be more controversial that life-action eva, the director for the life-action kite movie did xXx and The Fast and the Furious, so i don't doubt he'll be able to capture the action scenes in Kite down to a T, but the real story of betrayl and control is what will not come through in the life-action version because they say that they will be cutting down on the sex scenes...why? okay..i'm not a perv but from what i saw, it's not like the characters were having sex just for the fun of it, it was for plot-development so i think it should stay.
if anything at least establish the fact that she was done wrong in the past and present and then move on, but don't take the entire thing out is what i'm saying, the motive of the girl (i really can hardly ever remember names) should remain the loss of her parents+her abuse by that guy that abused her.
but with the way movies are going now-a-days, i don't think it'll be a problem making a good eva version, and NO, a movie is not limited to an hour and a half, for christ's sake, each LotR movie was like 4 hrs. so that gives it a lot more space to work with

That's a nice viewpoint, Kaji, but:
(1) there is no way on God's green earth that a standalone movie can possibly do any justice to Evangelion. Not even if it's 4 hours long.
(2) The series has white people with Japanese names living in Japan and speaking Japanese. That, transmogrified into American live-action, is not gonna work. Something is going to get screwed up.
(3) Americans are involved. You figure out the consequences of that ("Washington-3? What the fuck?")
