I thought "dramatic irony" only meant that the audience knew something important that the characters didn't (like how we (and all the other characters) know who the Fourth Child is long before Shinji finds out in Episode 18, unlike in the manga where he knows in advance)... not necessarily being told right out what's <i>going</i> to happen.
Hmm, interesting point but believe that it is still a form of dramatic irony because i think it affects all the "who, what, when, why, and how" in the aspect of knowing before the characters do. I could be incorrect or it may have a name in itself, not positive.
