If there's something that really bugs me with some dubbing, it's some of the outrageous changes made...it's one thing if they're small differences, but if you ever compare the dubbed and subbed versions there are some MAJOR differences. Also, I never saw this myself, and I can't even remember what anime it was, but I remember somebody telling me that they aired a show in the US where they changed a character's sex. How the hell do you do that?! I had the most frightening mental image of Kurama being passed off as a girl....::shudders::
I believe Sailor Moon had one of the enemies change their sex.

SUBS!

Post by bobbias » Thu Dec 11, 2003 11:06 pm

Subs, I almost always HATE dubs (IE Inu Yasha, they can't even say Kaede properly!), with the exception of Cowboy bebop, but I still want to hear more of Ed's Nonsence!

Well, that about sums it up, I have trouble getting anime other than Subs, and I prefer to listen to the japanese voices anyway (I'm in canada, nowhere near anywhere with a good Anime source, and I dont have much money in the first place.) So I generally look for the highest quality subs I can get off kazaa *shivvers at his desperation*

In Inuyasha, Kaede can't even speak properly! They have her saying "ye" in every second sentence. Some things should not be translated...

I prefer Dubs over subs. I don't need to justify my opinion.

Actually, thinking about it, it makes sense. Imagine if one of us were to be magically transported back to Elizabethean England (first Queen Elizabeth, not the modern one). That's essentially what Kagome is doing; I don't speak Japanese so I can't verify it, but I'd bet that Kaede in particular speaks a more archaic form of Japanese.

Though, assuming that's the case, then I wish they'd be consistent--Miroku and Sango and--well, everyone, really--should all speak that way as well...

I prefer dubbed over subbed. It's easier to get non-anime types interested, because you can get all the details without having to read, as a television program was meant to be viewed.

However, the primary reason I watch dubbed over subbed is due to my limited interest or access to anime. I watch what I can catch on digital cable (mainly the Action Channel's Animidnight, Tech TV's Anime Unleashed, or Asia Street on the International Channel). I don't download stuff off the web ((1). Because it's copyright infringemet, and (2). I don't know where to go, what format the files are in, and how to translate them on my Mac), and I only have one friend (who isn't interested in anime), so borrowing DVD's isn't an option.

There really is no option for me to preview anime before I buy DVD's, unless I rent from Blockbuster (which has a rather limited selection, seeing as they only have discs 1 and 2 of Eva, Escaflowne, and a couple others).

That's pretty sad. ;)
