Her first name is Victoria... but in the actualy Japanese, they have Victoria said last in Japanese form. Often, when anime is brought to America, they write the names in the form we Americans are used to (like in Ranma 1/2, they have the name as Ranma Saotome, even though the Japanese would say Saotome Ranma)
But the series takes place in London.

Is Alexander Anderson's name Anderson Alexander? Or Integra Wingates Hellsing, Hellsing Wingates Integra?

Good point. I've known a few anime where they do use the English habbit of first name, last name rather than the Japanese switch - and yes, this is in the original version. Gundam Wing has Quatre, Duo, Relena, and just about everyone give their names from first to last - no switch. Other anime I've seen do have it in the typical surname, first name order - but not all.

I don't care what they do in other shows...

I am telling you INFORMATION straight from the horse's mouth. I have no motivation to make this stuff up. I have had to suffer through many a lengthy rant about all the F-Ups in Hellsing itself and in the translation of Hellsing.

You know what... I haven't even seen the whole show... my information isn't based on anything in the show... just from people who have worked on it and have told me the list of problems

Here's just one example....

My friend: The name of the character is Alucard, not Arucard.
Stupid Execs: You're wrong. It even sounds like Arucard.
My friend: I don't care how it sounds. It is obviously Alucard.
Stupid Execs: What difference does it make?
My friend: Because one is Dracula spelled backwards.

Pause.

Stupid Execs: Well... let's talk to the creator of the show.
Creator of show: The character's name is Arucard, because it is Dracura spelled backwards.
Stupid Execs: See! It IS Arucard!!
My friend: (Goes to hospital for ulcer)

I'm not joking about that at all. The execs forced the use of Arucard in the subtitles because the CREATOR of the show couldn't pronounce his "l" in the name Dracula.

(And this level of stupidity is not uncommon all across the board when it comes to executives in the entertainment field... be they executives connected with anime release here in America or the ones calling the shots in American movies.)

I'm done talking about this.

Thus ended another dispute among anime fans.

For a good ten minutes.

Yes, I know that. I was just trying to make a point. The names aren't "bacwards" in Hellsing (minus Alucard's, if you want to get technical or something).

And there's no way his name is anything but Alucard.

Well, since we apparently have access to Ultimate Truth here, I've always wondered about the title "Sir" Integra Wingates Hellsing. If she's a British female knight, her title ought to be Dame - like Dame Vera Lynn.

I've also gone on record about how generally screwed-up the character naming and subtitling in Pioneer's Hellsing is (it's obviously Ferguson, not Fargason, retards), but I swear I heard/read somewhere that the decision to go with Arucard was to avoid stepping on Universal's toes -- Lon Chaney's character in Son of Dracula goes under the name Count Alucard -- given the amount of money they could anticipate making from this series.

Official word on this rumor would help clear up this dumb controversy; Alucard is officially Arucard either because anime execs are stupid or because movie execs are sue-happy.
