If you're going to show something on a major station that depends upon advertisments you have to edit things. If you pay for the cable channel that doesn't require advertising you can show anything you want (cussing, boobies, etc) Why certain things are edited out and others aren't is sometimes beyond everyone except the editors.
You can't blame the networks for the dubbing or translation because all they do is edit it to make it airable on TV. Blame people like ADV or Bandai or whatever for dubbing you don't like. They're the ones that bring it over for people like you to watch.

Bad anime can really mean a number of things, ranging from anime that just plain SUCKS to stuff that could be improved, I think. There's a whole bunch of anime out there that I believe has potential, but due to...um...crappy budgets, the animation quality is terrible or the story doesn't get a chance to develop. Too bad. :(

If think she can stand dialogue like this go right ahead.

Tomohome--I wonder if Miaka knows I love her more than I did 5 seconds ago.

Miaka-I wonder if tomohomo loves me more than he did 5 seconds

Tomahomo God I really love miaka more than I did 6 seconds ago.

I really really wish there could've been more of Hellsing!!! It was so great. It was high-quality, though. There are other shows like Nightwalker, Weiss Kreuz, and Saint Seiya (old, sort of cheesy, but for some reason unknownst to me I watch it ever Saturday) that could be 100x better if they redid them. Wasn't there an older version of Yugioh? I remember reading it somewhere...I think it followed the manga closely.

I've read a number of "bad anime" threads over the years and I've noticed that the most frequently picked titles also happen to be popular ones....
I'm sure that if they're popular that somebody out there actually likes the show and isn't just along for the ride.

I'll start by looking at DBZ because that is one show that is in some peoples top rated show list and others bottom rated show list. I personally don't enjoy it but for the genre it represents it is actually a decent show. I'm just not into the fight of the week style show.

Another point is that some people don't like a show because it made them feel sad. I'll never forget that someone rated Grave of the Fireflies as one of the worst movies ever because it depressed them so much. Personally, I think that is what makes GotF such a great movie. The fact that the show actually stirs emotions in people is rather impressive. How many anime can you think of that have touched you emotionally on some level.

I would love it if people included what it is about a show that they don't like when they say something is the worst show ever.

Fushigi Yuugi is one of my favourite shows out there. I do find the romance of Tomahome and Miyaka to be a bit over the top at times but that's how I remember teen love so it doesn't bother me too much. I have seen it both subbed and dubbed. Without starting a sub vs. dub debate, I can honestly say that the quality of the dubs are sub standard and if that's how you've seen this show then you're missing out on a lot of the emotion that is carried across by the Japanese voice actors.

If you want to see a really bad movie then check out Sword of Truth. Or if you're looking for a bad series then check out the Hakkenden: Legend of the Dog Warriors. Both of these have been around for a long time but they never seem to get mentioned. That's because they're just bad... I don't know anybody who likes either of these titles. They both have sloppy animation and confused editing and poor voice acting (even the original Japanese is pretty bad).

I found Grave of the fireflies to be a japanese world war 2 pity party with the main character a worthless boy who kills his little sister by being stubborn. Waah wahh boo hoo if I wont sad I'll watch episode 25 of Pita ten.

I guess this is the kind of answer I should expect from a self proclaimed monkey spanker.

I'm glad that you've given further reasons to why you didn't like Grave of the Fireflies beyond the whole "it was sad" response. There are a couple of factors that I think you may have overlooked when you called it a WWII pity party though.

The culture was totally different back in WWII and there weren't homes set up to take care of orphaned children at the time.
I feel that this movie shows the strength of two children who are forced to try to make a life for themselves in a difficult time. Rather than just rolling over and giving up or going around begging for handouts the kids do a reasonably good job of surviving on their own for a while.

I guess the point I'm trying to make in this thread isn't whether or not GotF is a good movie or not. I'm questioning whether it's one of the WORST movies or not. There are a lot of people who really like this movie so I'm trying to figure out why there would be a few who really don't like it.

What if you compared it to Ninja Ressurection or Sword of Truth? Both of those movies made me want a refund on the two hours I wasted watching them. They were both poorly animated with stories that were so contrived or edited so poorly that they lost all meaning. But I don't see either of these movies on peoples list of worst movies. Why is that?

The worst anime IMO, is actually Azumanga Daioh. Not because the show itself is bad, but I can't stand the really warped fans it attracts.
