Oh, ok. Didn't know that. Well in that case the LDs are just cumbersome and expensive.

And on a side note, what's the data storage capacity of an LD?
I know CDs are ~700mb, and DVDs are ~4.9gb .

Um...what's an LD? Man, I feel so clueless sometimes.

I don't like to watch burned anime because like many people have already pointed out, the quality isn't so good. I had a hard time with the Noir fansubs a friend loaned me and I'm not sure I wanna go through that again.

I really hate DivX. Something about having a nice, pretty anime box on my shelf makes me happy...so I prefer buying the stuff (I usually go to Best Buy, most DVD's are about 20-something bucks) or eBay. I just ordered a Gundam Wing boxed set (includes Endless Waltz!) but I strongly suspect that it's bootlegged. Well, whatever. I'm a high school student w/ no source of income aside from my allowance. I can't always do the "right thing"!

LD = Laser Disc. Its a form of digital media that looks like a CD (maybe DVD) but its the size of an old record disc. Hence the cumbersome aspect. They were moderately popular in the early '90s.

And about that Gundam Wing boxset, how many discs does it have including EW? It should have 11 to be official. If its like 6 total, its a bootleg.

ahh fansubs are always naff quality... ya shouldn't realy waste your time watching them cause it just makes you wanna go out and buy the proper stuff to watch it in prefect quality but then you've seen it

mmm but any bootlegs i get are always perfect quality and always uncut so you dont get tht censored stuff... and i just got this 2 days ago of ebay, good price eh

The problem with The HentaiMaster(bater)

is that he can't afford to buy anime because his spelling and grammar are so atrocious. This forces him to only gain employment in the illustrious fast-food industry. Man cannot live on anime by fast-food alone. Whenever he is able to properly write he may be able to create a very attractive resume (where's the accent key when you need it?). With a higher paying job the price of anime won't look so bad, but since the problem really is the economic state of the U.S. (and mass conspiracy) there is little one may do.
Prices are high because the target audience is smaller in number. If a zillion people want to buy something you can lower the price and still make a good profit. If only five people buy the same thing the price needs to be jacked up to make a profit, albeit smaller.
Despite what a fanboy may think the anime market is still small. Just because you love it and your two friends do doesn't mean the rest of the world does also.
I'd go on but I'm sure that no one pays any attention to any words of wisdom I may vomit forth. Besides, this will turn into a rant soon and I'm unable to beat people here with a baseball bat.
