What was the point of that comment? You're contradicting what you said about it being impossible when you say that. Don't knock people that invest time in Evangelion just for sport.
It's a backup statement in case he does know everything. Then I can call him an obsessed freak and not look bad because I allready defined it. :)
HeartbreakerByZep wrote:But I most certainly agree that a huge chunk of Evangelion is personal interpretation, and that's why it seems quite impossible for someone to understand it all without fault, but it's stil possible. What's wrong with Eva Monkey trying to help people who have questions they want answered?
Helping other people with EVA isn't a bad thing, but doing it in a egotripical way is. Eva monkey seemed to have crossed his own borderline OLOLO I MADE TEH FUNNY ON THE INTERENET.

Heh, k, whatever. Usually I get pissed off when people act like they know everything (because of my large ego) but this time Eva Monkey was helping me out so I didn't have any problem with it. Let's all just sit back and enjoy the moment, shall we?

I have a question. Don't you have something better to do than dedicate yourself to just one anime series?

Since I know someone will say it, I'll help by starting the sentence for you.

Harlock7876, don't you have something better to do than....

Why do most Eva threads lead to bitterness and irritation...

Because of me
Zarxrax wrote:the Red Cross Book states

"(blah blah blah)"

Rei didn't necessarily have to be "grown" as a test tube baby. Using whatever remains they had of Yui, LCL or whatever, it's feasible that she was initially crafted in the form of a 4 or 5 year old girl.
The Eva Monkey wrote:That is merely what we are told, and The Program Booklet glossary (Gainax approved) states her creation is after Yui's death.
Unfortunately for the Red Cross Book, Ritsuko states that the pilots all have to be 14. This is corroborated by the fact that ALL pilot candidates are in the same grade level.
Kracus wrote: It's not a loose translation, that's what it means. A person returning home, says "Tadaima".
It's like translating "hello" as "greetings". Same use, but completely different levels of definability.
)v(ajin Koji wrote:What was Rei's original purpose? To help Gendo get Yui back right? Or was it to replace Yui as I've heard a few places :?
It was to cause Third Impact. Gendo being reunited with Yui was part of that, yes, but only a very small part.
The Eva Monkey wrote: It is accepted that Rei contains the soul of Lilith and Kaworu contains the soul of Adam, that is the reason why Rei returned to lilith, and why Kaworu wanted to return to Adam.
Actually, Kaworu wanted to return to Adam because that was the imperative of ALL the Angels, regardless of whether or not they had Adam's soul :)
The Eva Monkey wrote:Kaworu contains adam's soul, as stated in the director's cut of episode 24
Yeah... I have a small problem with the DC scenes in 24'. Specifically, they create such tremendous plot gaps and contradictions that the whole episode pretty much stops making sense. The fact that SEELE gained three extra members for a day would have been fine to chalk up to animation error if not for the fact that the last 3 monoliths actually had "SEELE 13" through "SEELE 15" written on them in big glowy red letters... Other issues, such as Kaworu mistaking Lillith for Adam even after SEELE told him that Adam was in Gendo, are completely unforgivable. And Rei's line "What did he mean when he said he was the same as me?" pretty much puts a nerf on the whole "We both have the souls of Angels trapped in the bodies of humans" bit that was added to Rei and Kaworu's sole conversation.

Goddamn Director's Cuts...
The Eva Monkey wrote:First of all keep in mind that Rei was most likely an unintended by-product of the failed salvage of Yui Ikari. She later became a tool of Gendo Ikari.
So I suppose the line "This is the day for which you were created, Rei" can be completely ignored?
The Eva Monkey wrote:it is also my belief that she was used to trigger Naoko into the rage that caused Rei's death, as well as Naoko's. The scene seems very scripted to me, and it makes sense as Naoko was at the time trying to dig up the dirt so to speak, and that it was very convenient for her to be disposed of at that point. That is my own theory, and simply something I suggest you ponder.
Actually, that's a very cool theory, even though Fuyutsuki says something to Yui about how easy it is for SEELE to make people "disappear"...
HeartbreakerByZep wrote:Furthermore, her eye's a certainly red, and traditionally, if I'm correct, it is pink rather than red eye color that is associated with albinism.
Actually, the vast majority of OCA1a cases ("traditional" albinism) have blue or gray eyes, not pink or red :)
Nestorath69 wrote:Take a picture of Yui Ikari. load it into photoshop or whatever picture editing program you have. Invert it. Boom, you've got rei.
Ummm... am I the only person who can tell a dark-haired Rei apart from a Yui? Seriously...
MrScribble wrote:Example, tell me who killed Kaji?
The Men in Black. Anno himself explicitly stated in an interview that Kaji was killed by a random guy in a suit who worked for NERV's intelligence division. Maybe it was those bastards who took Misato's gun and badge.
Ask me about my secret stash of videos that can't be found anywhere anymore.

I always understood that to mean that they needed children born after the Second Impact, and that they then just chose the oldest ones they could get within that range. But it's certainly not clear.

Don't forget to factor in the little detail that the Marduk report was a hoax :?
It's like translating "hello" as "greetings". Same use, but completely different levels of definability.
... what? Those are synonyms.
Perhaps you'd like to share with us what other context "I am home" possibly could have possessed other than "I am home with Lillith", and what other context "Welcome home" possibly could have possessed other than "Welcome home Rei".

Bah humbug! Go live your own damn life. I don't see why someone should have to spread themselves thin when, if someone truly desired to (though I doubt Eva Monkey has) Evangelion provides enough possible contemplation to pretty much fill anyone's free time. We have this little thing called free will that allows us to live our lives the best way that WE can, not you.

Only people born after Second Impact could pilot Evangelion. (much to the dismay of Asuka's mother and Shinji's mother... or did they know in advance? I like to think that Yui knew in advance, which is why Unit 01 was so farkin cool. Asuka's mom was just fuckin crazy.) People suspect that it was because the Chamber of Gauf was open. Or closed. Or something.

Free will? Who gave you that free will?

The answer? Me. I give you the right to say what you will, do what you will. Is that the truth? No. But it is a kind of truth. EVERYTHING is up for interpretation. Now, quickly, while you still have the right to do so: Defend yourself the only way you can over the Internet.
