Be careful doing that. Someone might think you're a fanboy. Fanboys are embarassing.

Unless you're a puritan, amish, or a hentai otaku, one shouldn't feel embarassed. Anime has almost become mainstream so there's no big problem.

I'm not embarrassed to like anime, but I don't talk about it much since most people at school either don't know what it is or aren't interested. So there is no point in trying to talk about it - thus I can't get embarrassed. My dad on the other hand is embarrassed that I like anime. He stands back when I go look for it and keeps bagging it. I was happy that he was surprised to find that they could be rated MA.

I'm only embarassed to be seen watching anime if it's during a cheesy or corny scene. If Asuka is disembowling Evas, then I'm happy to be seen watching anime. But if it's that guy-on-guy scene from Cowboy Bebop, uh, nah, I hope no one sees me watching. I watch late at night when everyone else is alseep just so I won't get caught watching an embarassing scene. I don't want anyone I know to think that anime is lame, so I make sure that whenever someone can see me, a cool scene is on.

The Matrix

I don't think people should be embarassed of anime.

The Matrix was largely based on anime (Ghost in the Shell in particular). How many people would be embarassed of The Matrix.

I mostly keep it from my family. It kinda feels like my dark secret, but i have no idea why. I gues I just get tired of explaining it. "Well, Grandma, it's cartoons from Japan." Like she would know what I'm talking about. Other than that, it still carries a nerd-tag. Plus, with all the fanservice in anime, I guess it carries a pervert tag also.
This is a painlessly short sig.

Matrix was mainly based on lots films from Eastern Asia. You go the anime bit down, but the action sequences are pure Hong Kong. You got marial arts choreography staight from Yuen Wo-Ping and gunfights in the style of John Woo. If you didn't know, Chow Yun-Fat was the original choice for Morpheus, but he was currently doing Crouching Tiger, and I'm fucking glad that he was too busy for Matrix. And most people already knew that Jet Li was the original choice for the Oracle's personal guard. Not necessarily Asian, but Jean Reno was also the original choice for Agent Smith.

John Woo equals greatest Director

Post by HeavyMetal » Thu May 20, 2004 1:21 am

I already knew.

I am a big John Woo fan.

I was just trying to keep my post short and on topic for once.

And yeah Lawrence Fishburg was a much better choice. He was kind of like Gandi with a gun.

Example:
Smith "I want everything." Morpheus calmly "Would that include a bullet from this gun."

They were originally thinking about Brad Pitt or Leonardo Decaprio for the part of Neo too.

As for Agent Smith I thought they got the perfect actor for it. Of course having seen The Matrix first, it made it hard to watch and focus during Lord of the Rings as he was high elf.

Granted the type of movie is up Brad Pitt's ally, but the part was much more meant for Reeves. He has the darker more eccentric look and character for the part.
