Yes, most people that criticize something don't know much at all or anything for that matter because it's easy to object based on purely inner notions.
As for stereotypes:
Discrimination, hate and racism have been here for centuries and the main components of stereotypes.
Most have no base or real merits because generalization is null.
That said the fact that people from/in the USA call themselves american doesn't help much to the view of them.
Anime is looked down upon because everything else in this Earth is...
Stupid humans.

of course it's looked down upon.
It's because people only see what's on Cartoon Network, Fox Box, or the WB. Those things are so editted and kiddie-fied, that even I get disappointed by anime!
People just have to watch uncut animes that are more adult. I'm not talking about something that's a blood bath or hentai, though. Just... anything... that isn't a complete kids anime.

No, you presume to know its not. Just because you had a run of bad luck (which I am sorry for) does not mean you can just catagorize every single US citizen into your little stereotype machine. Besides, Missouri is all kinds of fucked up.gepetto wrote:You think its a stereotype but i know its not. I was born in the USA, but at age two, i came to live in Brazil. When I went back over there for another two years i was looked down upon by virtually everyone because they saw me as a foreigner (which I`m not, just look at my fucking ID card) until I could prove that I was just as good an American as they were. Maybe it`s not like that where you live, but that`s how it works in Missouri.someperson wrote:That's a nasty stereo type *shivers*
There is a bit of truth to that stereo type but for the most part, I don't think the majority of Americans are like that (at least not in my neck of the woods). If we seriously beleived that everything produced outside the US was crap, then thousands of companies would be out of business and we'd be living like cavemen.
So is Texas
So, again, I apologize for whatever ignorant assholes gave you shit about being from a different chunk of land. But please, try to refrain from any international stereotypes. I have had many close friends from other countries all over the world, even Brazil.

We should get back on topic rather than discussing racist americans and their natural habitats.
People just don't know what they're missing. The best thing to do is to show them amvs and rant and rave about the total sweetness of anime. In all seriousness, it works. My friend(DarkHeartRyujin) and I have converted two people that way. They love (and hate) us for it.

Oops, sorry. 8)
I think that anime is only looked down upon by people who don't know enough, if anything, about it. So I don't think it matters because those people are judging without knowledge, which makes them ignorant.

hmm good topic question. If you are in the Marines, there is one thing I can tell you, It is. I am haveing a rough time to keep up with everything, with the Marines and all. But I get by day to day. So as long as I keep on beleving in what i beleive in, then none can change my mind about it. Their always telling me that i should be more like them, attune to everything that isnt anime and more into life.
If the army or navy ever looks upon heavens scenes, they would see that the streets are guarded by the United States Marines.
