I actually saw the movie "Tenchi Muyo in Love" long before toonami was around, and I liked it, so i was psyched when Tenchi Muyo! came on the air, but I would have to say Tenchi Universe was my favorite.

*psst* There's a Ryoko picture thread in the anime screencap forum if you want cool pictures. -hint hint-

What I liked about Universe was it's the series with the closest thing to an actual ending to the romantic side of the story, especially if you take the movies into account.

You cann't realy take the movies into account. If you look at the character relations closely you see there are differances in the history. Every Series that has come out, wheather it was anime, manga or novel the stories are just slightly different.

Um...thats completely NOT true. The final movie was COMPLETELY based on the Universe series, they even show CLIPS from the Universe series during the end credits as an aged film of memories....

But wasn't the final movie the one that no one liked? I don't know I haven't seen it but that's what I've heard.

NO, it was the Tenchi in Tokyo series that noone liked.

The first movie followed the Universe series.

The second one (Manatsu no Eve) was more loosely based on the OVA (altough the presence of Kiyone tends to throw people off in that respect),but really that entire movie is pretty non-sequential in the story...its not even a full length movie, more of a fun romp with the characters. its pretty free standing.

The third was entirely ALSO based on the Universe series, as i mentioned the credits are proof of that. It was meant to end the tenchi universe. It was titled "Tenchi in Love 2" (though often referred to as Tenchi Forever), because it was meant to sidestep the 2nd (Manatsu no Eve), and pick up where the first movie, Tenchi in Love, left off.

..and tokyo went on to beat a dead horse into the ground, set it on fire, and beat it again. As i said before, it was cheaply animated, badly changed character designs, to extreme in design, and a story that could have been wrapped up in 5 episodes tops, much less the 26 it dragged on for. That damn "cross country communicator" episode that went on for WAY too long killed it for most people. The characters often acted "out of character" too much, and the way Sakuya latched onto tenchi was moronic, intellectualy insulting, and just used as another girl-to-the-harem style ala tenchi.

*end rant
