I've never cosplayed, but I plan to go to Comicon this summer dressed as Chun-li. Or Chi-Chi, or Mamimi, depending on the hair shade...
There's not many cool black/brown hair brown/black eyed anime girls to cosplay as, which is kind of sad. -__-
But sewing is one of my hobbies, and it'd be fun to make an anime outfit.
That's why I think some cosplayer's do it- they're good at sewing, so making a weird animefied costume is a fun challenge.

If I can manage to carve my guts into a nice bumpy 6-pack, instead of a flat concave shape, then I'd definitely put some effort into making a picture perfect costume of...
[drumroll]
Jin Kazama from Tekken 4
I didn't like his shirtless look from 5, but his open gi outfit from Tekken 4 is probably my fav. If I wanted to look cool kicking ass, then he's the guy I'd cosplay as.
Incidentally, I can do pretty much all of his moves minus the cool red glow and red lightning ;_; Yay for real life martial arts training!!!
Then my wife would need a stick to fight back the rabid fangirls who'd want me...
or not...

I think most of it is either done by hand or ordered off of ebay in bits and pieces. I would probably go the ebay route or have someone else make it.Super Shanko wrote:Heres an interesting question that could serve me well in the future, where exactly do some you get your costumes? i have no skill what-so-ever in sewing so it sucks for me
You're lucky... I've decided to let you live to see the day when I will rule the world.

I've said a couple of times that I'd be cosplaying Ayato Kamina from RahXephon at Anime North, but that was a joke. I'm probably too old to be a real cosplayer. I look young enough to pull it off but still...plus I don't have enough money. I suppose I could be persuaded, but I doubt it. One of these days I might grow a Gendou beard though...
Cosplay on hot chicks is totally great on the other hand. I especially like Chiis and Kagomes.

Wouldn't do it my self because I wouldn't be able to pull it off. Some people just have the knack for that sort of thing.
Oh god, that black dude with the afro is always making those damn trash ass music hip hop amvs...he needs to do something with techno or rock....
.......as if I would do something like that.

I wouldn't say the Asians-only rule is a guaranteed one...
True, the majority of the characters in anime are Asian...however, there are some characters (such as, for just one example, prettymuch all of the main cast of Hellsing (Integra, Walter, and Seras are all British (Alucard...I'm not sure where he stands) and Alexander Anderson is Irish.)) that are often pretty definitely of another ethnicity...
In turn, I'm not sure how well I could see an Asian cosplayer pulling off...say...Slegger Rowe from Mobile Suit Gundam or Roy Focker from SDF Macross (given both were designed to be cocky, blonde-haired token American-type characters)
There are options for just about everyone, really...just got to know what you can pull off is all
